I have one of these type of units and they do work great and look cool. ONLY issues is that they are not very energy efficient. When i use it, i notice my electric bill sky rocket unfortunately compared to gas heating.

I've not noticed that where I live in TN but with gas prices increasing 15% this year in my area it probally balances out.

I use it to heat one room so that I can have the heat off for the rest of the house. Doing it that way it is possible that I least break even if not come out ahead a bit.

I have an electric fireplace which is not working, but I must get it fixed. They really give off some heat and they are kind of nice to look at too! Good deal.

what about the electricity bill? is it worth having an electric fireplace?

I'm actually kinda curious about the energy usage as well; we have PGE and they charge astronimcal fees, I used a micathermic heater last year and it ran up $300 in usage in one month! I like the look of these and they seem to get good reviews, but yeah, not sure if they're an energy hog or not.

My electric bill was not high. Electricity from town to town, city to city, state to state varies so keep that in mind as well. I would not use it for you primary heat that is for sure. Keeps a room cozy and has some beauty to it. I also have a pellet stove which we use all winter long at least 20 hours a day give or take and is super energy efficient. That is our primary heating source.

Also this is a electric stove, I have an actual fireplace which is electric. My sister has this electric stove in her home and puts it on while they watch TV at night.
