Eve, if you try googling for free ebooks you'll find books which are no longer copyrighted. Project Gutenberg and so on. For latest ebooks you can always download them off bittorrent or rapidshare. You can also copy pdfs directly to the prs and read it. There is also a converter try googling pdf2lrf which makes some unreadable pdfs readable. Also when you register your prs-505 you get a 100 free ebooks from the sony store. Thats how you get books for free. Its very little work for what you get.

I loved the original Kindle (even with its expensive price tag and all) but I can't wait to see what new price and improvements the Kindle 2 will bring.

The Kindle 2's price point better be a hell of a lot better than $359 for the original or I can't see this competing for long with the iPhone and apps like Stanza (which offers free downloads)

Why are these readers so expensive???????? Less than $100 might have me interested.

Have played with a co-worker's Kindle and I just don't understand the fascination with this device. Why not just get a netbook and be more productive? Or even a PDA will allow you to do more than just read on a monochrome screen. Weird..

I take it you are not an avid reader? Reading on a PDA or netbook is awful. It strains your eyes after extended periods. Reading on an ebook is exactly like reading on paper. If you look at the screen you would think it wasn't even on.

I wouldn't call it the best in the world, but its a step in a right direction. Probably a good choice for someone without access to a free content. :) Otherwise I will stick to prs-505

Access to free content on a prs-505? How so? I'm intrigued!

Very cool! They should make a mini-kindle called Min-dle. So I carry it in my pocket.
