Discover has some nice returns, although keep in mind that many places do not accept discover as I believe they charge higher fees to the merchant. I've got the chase freedom card and its actually a little better than described. You don't just get 3% for those three categories, there are 15 purchase categories and the three you spend the most on for that month you get 3% back for those categories. So if you have a large purchase at a department store you will get 3% back for all dept store purchases, or if you have a big pet store bill one month you get 3% back from pet stores, its very flexible. Plus get an extra $50 if you save up $200 in rewards.

Just remember that when you drive through the heart of every major city and see the names of these companies posted at the tops of the tallest buildings downtown, they didn't get there being generous. Read the fine print and be smart.

Visa is a great company, but I've had very, very bad luck with Chase Visa. They lost one of my checks and made me pay a fee for them losing it! Go with the others....

Uh, that Blue Cash card needs to be updated to read "Up to 5%" instead of just 5%. It's 1% on the first $6500 year to date, then 5% on everything after.

I don't like credit cards in general because their main goal is to keep you in debt to make money, however American Express is better than the rest when it comes to customer service.

What are you talking about? If you are responsible you will never be in debt. I started using credit cards at 20 years old and have never spent more than I can afford to pay off.

I auto pay all my credit cards making them more in line to debit cards (except I pay at the end of the month). Just about everything I buy goes on credit cards and with things like gas I get 5% back (discover). Also building your credit lowers the cost of your insurance and does a lot of other great things. Everyone should get credit cards and as long as your auto-paying they are great for money rewards/building credit/etc.

Two I like: Countrywide Visa: 2% back if applied to your mortgage, or 1% cash back. Fidelity Visa: 1.5% back if applied to a Fidelity account, or 1% cash back, travel and other options available, too.

nice, pay your mortgage loan off with a credit card loan...and we wonder why we're in a credit crunch?
