Wow that does suck, HTC is a major Android provider (and both my phones are HTC); you can supposedly use Bluetooth DUN for it though. Will have to check out when I get home.

Great app for android phones. Glad that there is an app like this. Phone companies definitely overcharge for tethering

That is my fear too. It stinks to have to pay extra money to use data that you already are paying for. This is a great solution, but I don't see the carriers allowing it to continue.
