11 Things To Do With Your Old iPhone (CBS Boston)

NEW YORK (AP) — In case you haven’t heard by now, Apple is unveiling its latest iPhone on Wednesday.
That leaves the question: What should you do with your old one?
The new phones will join some 244 million iPhones sold since the first one launched in 2007.

Some have been lost or stolen. Some of us are still hanging on to our old gadgets in some futile attempt to resist the constant upgrade cycle that technology companies are forcing on us.

But it’s fair to say that millions of iPhones are languishing in desk drawers or gathering dust.
Here are a few things to do with yours to keep it from meeting that fate once you buy the iPhone 5.

1. Give it to your kids so they stop taking yours…
2. …or to your mom so she can finally see the light
3. Use it as a teeny-tiny iPad
4. Donate to charity
5. Alarm Clock
6. Sell, sell, sell!
7. Trade in at GameStop!
8. Stream music
9. Keep as a backup in case you lose/break your fancy new one.
10. Use as a camera.
11. Recycle with Apple

Just keep the old phone and dont ugrade to Iphone 5 :) Other than display size increase. It is practically same with more improvements coming from software rather than hardware.

Interesting list. I saw this on my local news. I always thought ebay would be the best bet. People buy up things like no tomorrow. It is unbelievable.

Yea, for sure. Just list it on ebay. I've sold several phones with broken screens and they got decent money.

EBay is the way to go. I sold an iPhone 4 that is locked to a Japanese carrier and had shattered back glass on there a month ago for $250. I wouldn't have paid $50 for that but I threw in a SIM unlocker card and a powermat with it to sweeten the deal.

I kind of agree for # "2. …or to your mom so she can finally see the light" but not for all moms!

They forgot "shoot it with a high caliber weapon", "keep it, and don't waste money on a slight upgrade", "skip it into a pond".

Apple's now about where Android was 18-24 months ago. What a joke.

Some people just don't have time to tinker with Android OS and want something to just work out of the box. Other than the terrible stock firmware, finding a custom firmware that works 100% on my SGS2 was next to impossible.

Yeah, it does work out of the box. You have to be relatively unintelligent to not be able to run an android phone. In which case, the Playskool iPhone is still there.

It's not just about working out of the box, its about the whole hardware and software experience combined. Sure google has its cloud, but Apple's cloud just works, apps just work on Apple, and really nothing ever causes an iPhone to freeze, crash, or otherwise not work. Despite all the features in each android phone, no single phone provides everything in one package apple does. I can compare with my friend's brand new Android, and it has a brilliant screen, but lacks proper sound, noise cancellation on calls, and still is "jumpy" with certain things, not smooth throughout. I hardly think you can say it is now where android was 2 years ago without considering everything the OS has to offer.

really hate to be one to pitch in to an Android vs Apple conversation, as they both are great in their own ways, but calling it primitive, or "Playskool" is just not right...

what a terrible list... if you really want to make money off your old iPhone 4S, jailbreak + unlock it and sell it on ebay for T-Mobile users because we are still left out of the Apple market apparently... I know a few T-Mobile users that would want one - not me, I'm a Fandroid. Apple is so outdated imo

I'm counteracting those thumbs down with thumbs up, even if I may be inclined towards apple rather than android or windows or w/e else.

Some of them are just unreasonable thumbs downs.
