Netflix to Subtitle All Content by 2014 | Inside Redbox

Hearing impaired movie lovers will find Netflix much more accommodating in the coming years, as the streaming giant has made an agreement with the National Association for the Deaf to add closed captioning to all videos by 2014.

The agreement brings a 2010 class-action lawsuit filed by NAD to a close. Netflix is bound to caption 90 percent of its content by 2013 and the rest the following year. Netflix must also quickly add captions to new content; it has 30 days to do so in 2014, 14 days in 2015, and just 7 days in 2016. Netflix must also pay $755,000 to NAD’s lawyers and $40,000 as the ruling is implemented over the coming years.
