I was given a big check from my health insurance to pay for a medical bill. I payed for the bill with a credit card then promptly paid it off with the money I received from my health insurance. I got tons of rewards points.

Smart move. I do that with my car insurance payments. It's an easy way to rack up a lot of points.

I love my rewards so I am definitely charging everything that they will allow me to charge on my credit card

Found a LOT of interesting information in this Article! Things I had not considered... I've been trying to cut down on using my Credit Cards - but a lot of this makes sense! Thank you for sharing this! :)

Glad I could help. There is also a lot that we already know but sometimes forget so this article reinforces that.

As long as you are leaving a large % of your available credit open it can't really hurt your credit score. I use credit whenever I can too, but then I always pay my bills on time and never pay interest and I am consistent with it.

Yes i always pay evrything on time. Being an economics major....i am very careful with financial stuff:) . I get points for every purchase i make with my credit card even if i pay it off before the statement.

LOL. I have already tried that. They don't allow mortgage payments on the credit card because the processing fees add up on the mortgage amounts and the bank would have to foot the bill.

yes the cell phone bill too. I try to charge anything that lets me charge because I accumulate rewards on my credit card.

lilywow, do you still get rewards if you pay before you get your statement? Is that even allowed? I currently have all store credit and PayPal smart connect and I'm weighing all my "real" credit card options. :)

@dealwagger- yes you do. As long as u make the charge on the card, you are entitled to rewards whether you pay it before you get your statement or after.

@dealwagger. @lilywow is correct. I charge my cell phone bill to it too. As long as you charge anything to your CC, you will get the rewards
