I'm a bit confused. As far as I know..in my household..we can all have memberships..but we don't all live in the same house..hmm...

My mom uses my aunt's Costco membership card, so I don't think she ever signed up for her own. So I can't really answer part of your question as to whether or not she could share with people not living in the same house.
I can take a stab at why it isn't allowed though. If it were legal to share one's membership, that would mean a lot less people would sign up for one. If one person shared with a neighbor or something, then those club would be one less of a registered member. Assuming that an entire city shops at the same club, then it would be like half the city not paying for membership.

To clear up your confusion...I am asking do you SHARE a membership to a club with someone who doesn't live in your household? I did share a Sam's Club with my Mom and she shared the same membership with my grandmother for years. We all didn't live in the same house. In May I was told I cannot use my card because I don't live with the primary card holder. When I signed up the saw my license and my address and knew my Mom and I didn't live at the same address, but continued to take our money.
Like I said many people do share memberships. I know many people who do. I was just wondering if anyone ever had a problem where in the middle of the year which you pre-pay for the tell you after several years you cannot use your card. They say "IT IS POLICY"! Well, where was the policy police when I signed up and the took my money.
Thanks nimrodboy for your feedback.
Thanks.. I understand why in theory the store(s) think sharing is a bad idea. The way I look at it. The $45 membership fee is split by family 1 and family 2. So yes they only get one memberships fee, but in the end this store has two different families shopping. Two different shopping orders to two different houses that need food, and all of the essentials, so I think by clubs allowing two people whether or not the live in the same house could potentially make them more money as the only lost a once a year $45 fee.
I knew a lot of people shared memberships, but I was just wondering if anyone ever had a problem and was told you cannot use your card because you don't live in the same house.
Thanks for your feedback!
I for one have a mebership on my parents account. It was less expensive to add a card then for me to join on my own. I get my own coupon book too. I never have been questioned at costco or sams club.

Hi onehundone! Just wondering do you live with your parents whom you share memberships with? My Sam's club membership was canceled because I one day forgot my card at home, I asked for a temp card and that was when the decided after many years, since my Mom and I do not share an address we can't be on the same account! Just very strange and seem to be the only one that has this problem. That is why asked! Thanks for your reply!!
