I just noticed it on 2 of the orders I recently placed and you will see it right near the subscribe and save price. It is different than if it is something that is out of stock and it says they will ship as soon as they get it in. When I called customer service about it they said that I could get it sooner which would cost more by canceling my order and submitting the prime only price.

It had to have been losing them a lot of money for them to do that. I still still Amazon as more customer-centric than the majority of stores so I hope they explain their move (without the use of corporate jargon of obfuscation). I am very guilty of using S&S for the price and then immediately cancelling the subscription so perhaps there were too many others like me doing the same. I'm not excusing them but simply supplying a plausible reason.
