For me it has to be free up front and not after a rebate nor can it require a purchase (in that case you are simply getting a discount on the combination). It could be a sample or a full-sized version as long as it is free. If it has shipping it's not free because some crafty companies charge enough shipping to make a profit on their "free" item. I

I remember seeing that deal and I swear I remember it being tagged FWP...
If I were in the market for their garments, that deal might be the difference between me buying from VS or someplace else, so by all means, *I* would list it as a freebie *because* it was specifically tagged "free with purchase"

Interesting, I get that. What about rebates that are "moneymakers?" Sometimes I do these and not only do I get my money back in a check but I get more than I even spent! I can see how you would not consider these if you forget (I never forget a rebate ;)

For me, it would depend on how good the freebie was. In your case of free umbrella with $65 purchase, (if I even thought about it), I probably would put it under Clothing, but if it was a free umbrella with "any" purchase, I would have put it under freebies. If you have to spend a lot more than the item is worth, I may tend to not consider it a freebie. But, it's probably really your call.

And, don't worry, it didn't look like you were scolded. Just soemone voicing their opinion. I've seen scolded, and that's nothing :)

I know it can get really subjective. I mean, is free popcorn at the theater really free if you have to buy the movie ticket? And, I personally consider items that are free after rebates to be considered free (after all is said and done, it's free). Plus, some full freebies seem obvious to be just spam information collectors even if you end up with a small free sample, you just gave away all your personal info. Where to draw line???

For me..free means you have to invest no money at all. This means there is no shipping price. This also means that it's not a free with rebate deal. I put those in deals, whereas things where you don't have to pay anything I put in freebies section.

There are several different opinions and no right answer so do whatever feels right to you and don't worry

2) I think "Free/WP" is perfectly acceptable. I recently used that and someone took the liberty of Editing it to "Gift". A gift, as I understand, is something that is given or bestowed... freely. So I actually feel that "Gift" is less accurate. "Gift/WP" would make better sense; and that's just like saying "Free/WP" ... to me, anyway.
