I think it's a lot of fun. It doesn't track your heart beat or anything so there's nothing to really be skeptical about. I did first buy a heartbeat monitor but then returned it because didn't like how inaccurate it seemed to be at times. I'm just all about numbers and it's fun for me to track my stats through Nike+.
I don't have a fuel band, but I do track runs on Nike+. I don't do friends on there because I don't run regularly enough to compare runs with other people. I'll probably get a heart rate monitor to go with my iPod. If the fuel band worked with the sensor, I might go with that. But I think I'll have to use the SportWatch or the SportBand. Neither seem to have very good reviews for heart rate monitoring (as most monitors dont). Probably for the same reason you mentions. Inaccuracies.

@nthsll: I used my heartbeat monitor several times and am glad because now I can tell when I'm in the zone without needing the monitor. I took it back and bought the Nike+ Fuelband and am much happier. Plus, wearing that chest strap really did get quite annoying to me.
