DId you check with your cable company? Many of them still give free ones away. Mine lets you get 2 and then you have to pay for any additional ones from there.

The government was giving vouchers for a free box but I don't think they are anymore.

The federal DTV converter box coupon program ended just over two years ago. They gave you $40 off, not a free box. Far fewer places still sell converters, and there are far fewer makes available. Since all new TVs don't need them, all that remains of the market are recent "cord cutters" and replacements for units that have failed. The Zinwell ZAT-970A is $40 with free shipping at Amazon. I recently installed a couple of them for a friend, and they worked very well with just cheap indoor antennas, also from Amazon (Zenith VN1ANTP1, $4.88)
