Hate the new deals plus

johng333
There is an old saying, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it".  The old Dealsplus was considerably more user friendly.  I find the new navigation and look to be confusing and unpleasing.

The front page is overwhelming and at the same time makes it harder to find information. How can you show more and tell less? Easy, and this new look is a perfect example that more is not better. Having been on the site for years, yes, multiple years, I am amazed that I not only found it hard to find certain items, but there are a few things I can not find at all. Yet I am presented with a host of useless, unwanted information.

Let's say I wanted to check for sales on software. Would that be under Computers? No. Electronic? No. Where would that be? I used to go under Computers and check on the price of mice and keyboards. Gone.  How about just a general catagory called Computer Accessories? Nope

Those are just a few examples. Not to worry, I now have a list called "Popular Stores". Popular with who? Why? What does that have to do with me?  Am I supposed to suddenly have an urge to shop at one of those stores instead of finding the lowest price deal for the item I want? How does that list benefit me?  Did you think I never heard of Walmart, Sears, or Nike and now that I see them in a list it will fill that gapping void in my life.  OMG!  WALMART IS ONLINE!  Thanks Dealsplus!  Why not just tell me the internet is online, that info would be as useful.

The navigation is so kludge compared to the old version. I look at the site now and it feels like someone vomited information on the front page, navigation is almost hidden in a tiny list on the upper left that feels like I am being told if I am that picky I can just work to find what I want, and then the rest is payed advertisement for things which I have no interest.

If I wanted coupons, I would click the coupons tab. If I want deals, I want deals, not deals squeezed between coupons and POPULAR STORES.

The site just plummeted. Bens Bargains, Fat Wallet, Slick Deals, and the rest will be getting an unexpected upsurge in traffic as people search for what we used to get from Dealsplus.

Why DP why?  We loved you so much.....

I have the feeling they have been trying to come up with that little "something" that they can't find! I've been on the site only 3 yrs and they implemented stuff than then they remove , they change the color, move stuff around, now the image....they lost something! Someone help them find it :) PLEASE

johng333 - to the point yet hilarious. Wondering how long your criticism will stay online. Mine was deleted in matter of hours, now waiting when they will delete my account... DP simply changed the layout to maximize profit from advertisement and promotes stores which get them best cut on deals purchased by DP users...

Get over it already tooneutral, you and Johng33 seem to be one of the few, where's your statistical data showing how many users have "ran away" ? and if they do,it's their loss. Instead of complaining why don't you try adding something positive, like say maybe a suggestion on improvement,it's easy to spout out negatives. No one is taking you seriously.
Spend more time deal hunting than complaining, you might find it rewarding.
oh...Have A Nice Day!

xptrish - thanks for your "valuable" suggestion. Complaints are actually the most beneficial to any business that wants to grow and blossom. Those businesses that don't take complaints seriously generally fail - there is plenty of competition willing to listen to their customers ...Why don;t you build a business then ignore complaints and fail? You may find it rewarding ... - but only if you learn from that experience and build on your past experience - perhaps than we can have a sensible conversation whatever is good for business and what hurts a business. Until then - enjoy your day

I Absolutely agree that complaints can be beneficial,my point is when you launch a tirade you belittle your own credibility. Constructive criticism will go farther.
I ran a business for someone else and took their weekly profit from a mere $7,000 a week to over $100,000 a week in less than a year,so believe me I totally agree that the "customer" must be listened to and taken seriously. It does matter how you,or others convey their disapproval though that will get more positive results.

xphish, didn't you launch a tirade? I am looking at your comment, looking at mine..... mine points out issues that can be fixed. Yours is simply a tirade attacking me.

So what was it you said happens when you launch a tirade? And shouldn't you have offered better feedback to me? After all, how you convey your disapproval affects results right? Irony strikes again.

Having been here since 2007 and at one point being the top contributor of deals, I have contributed directly to the success of dealsplus. My lament is that the changes make the site less applealing. You ask for statistics. As soon as you provide the statistics of how many new clients the change adds, I will ask DP to give a report on how many long timers they chased away

I can confirm one statistic. A long time user who was the top deal poster, before the MM program when we did it for absolutely nothing, is very displeased and is looking for alternative sites. Now, can you personally list a single new person that has come to the site because of the new look? No, you can not.

Be constructive. Tell me why or how the specific navigation issues I listed are wrong. Tell me how a list of Popular Stores will benefit users? Tell me how many people you believe did not know Walmart and Sears had websites and that new Popular Stores list will now provide them with that much needed info. You can't. Thanks for nothing. You were only slightly less helpful than the new Dealsplus site itself.

Interesting. In another post titled " The New Look", where the OP is happy with the new site, the overwhelming majority of the comments are NOT HAPPY with the new site. xptrish?

Check for yourself http://dealsplus.com/pages/the_new_look/25381 . Initial revenue for the site might rise, but after people start using one of the other 100 deal sites because this UI (user interface) is not user friendly, it will change back. But then it will be too late.

Save Dealsplus. Don;t let it die. At the very least launch a poll asking people to rate the new site. If the poll says most love it, so be it. If the poll says most hate it, then its time to either change it back or just tell your loyal supporter to "love it or leave".

IanSmitth the point of this post is that the OLD version of the site helped us be aware of current deals MUCH BETTER than this version.

Tell me how a list of Popular Stores on the left helps you be aware of current deals please. It does not. Its just limits the current deals view by giving links that help provide click revenue to the site. But if no one can use the site, they won't click, then no revenue.

Save Dealsplus, bring back the old style.

I wonder how difficult it is to change things on websites? It probably took a lot of work. it Is not so much that I just want the old version back, I want an even better version than that.
The new buzz feature is a step in the right direction. If they could get rid of the wide spacing and make the listings more compact on all pages, it would be sooo helpful. the picture box doesn't have to be that large, I can't see enough of the title in the grid view. [but I do use a larger display setting because I stand far from the screen. the old layout worked better for this]

That is how a site dies, not overnight, but slowly losing its most ardent supporters which also slows the word of mouth advertising which brings new users to a trickle.

How about at least a comment from DP management. What is the focus, is it under review, is it take it or leave it?

Regardless of who is considered a top user, how could PLUSIT possibly know if top users complained? All we know is that off the people who viewed the topic it is a 100 that agreed and 9 that did not agree.

Money makers need people visiting the site and clicking their links for them to make money. Dealsplus needs people visiting the site and clicking links to make money. Casual users need a friendly interface that helps them find deals better and faster than other sites to make it worthwhile.

So far we have
- zero feed back from DP management
- 100 / 9 negative to positive ratio from users
- threads from MM and comments that express concern
- comments from casual users that they are using the site less and less.

The loyal users want the site to thrive. That is the motivation for these posts. Keep DP alive and make it a great site for the majority. It is failing to deliver and people are working to right the course. I seem to check back in now only to see if anyone is listening from DP. The silence is deafining. We can speculate all we want " I guess they ...", and that is all it is, speculation and guessing. My fear is that by the time DP management has a meaningful discourse with its users, it will be a very, very small group.

I think the new site is easier for mobile/tablet use. It took some getting used to though. I like the buzz and trending tabs! Like plusit said, give it a few months. If the traffic decreases or too many users dislike it, they'll probably figure out something else. I personally have grown to like it but, as long as it doesn't affect my ability to post, I'd be ok with almost anything. The best deals usually get FP pretty quickly, and searching for deals has not presented me with any problems. I rarely browse through categories. Is that harder now?

I am glad the section that you could plus or minus a deal (what was it called) is gone. It was a great concept and had the potential to help the best deals reach front page but, i feel, it was often abused and some members used it as a way to get their posts on top.

If people are unhappy with the new site, speak up and detail specificlly what bothers you. Likewise, if you like it, what do you like? Its hard to make changes on a website that will absolutely please everyone. People deal with change in different ways. If they experiment with the layout on a daily or weekly basis, dealspl would lose new visitors due to confusion. Again, its great to speak your mind, but I dont think there is any reason to attack each other

More importantly, if every plus is x4, that means the people agreeing are power users, the people who make the site run. So either the power users are overwhelmingly unhappy in this thread or there are 120 casual users saying the site is not as good as it was.

Quick poll: How many people find the list of POPULAR STORES helpful and have come to this site and used that list? My guess is ZERO. If you weren't aware of Amazon or Target or Sears online sites you wouldn't be using the internet to use Dealsplus.

No post can make the site look bad. The exception might be one that attacks individuals and casts aspersions on people for having that opinion. Those type of posts show a complete lack of civility and community with a focus on personal gain.

This is an awful dialogue, because it is NOT a dialogue, it your personal diatribe attempting to to shut down the opinion of between 50 and 100 users in this thread. You could have disagreed and posted why the new site is better, you could have shown positives that the new site has brought, you could have attempted to engage the disenfranchised and encourage them to see benefits where we see negatives in relation to the old format. You chose to attempt forced censorship.

Those who have plussed the original topic are giving feedback to try and restore DP to what it was before the change. Your goal was to yell at us to shut up. In the end, all you have done is succeeded in keeping the thread at the top with your denunciation. Well played. Good day to you.

Dealsplus used to be a community. It was focused on show casing the best deals, as determined by the community, for the good of the community. Contributors did it for free, to help each other out, and the owners got paid by the sites promoted. It was recently changed to focus on sponsered links that pay more click revenue ( look at Popular Stores links or Top Coupons). The community became one dominated by a group called Money Makers, who get paid for posting deals. Watch, you will see several negatives immediately associated with this post. They work like the mean cliques in HS, bullying anyone who has an opinion, pushing each others deals to focus on money. The site went from easy to navigate and group based, to a clugy mess that does not focus on promoting the lowest cost deals to one focusing on what makes the most money.

It is a real shame. It was the best discount site on the web. It was different, special, and loved by its users. The whole point of this thread was to help get back to that magic, to save the site. Now - count the thumbs down. How many people do you think are really mad that somebody wants to rescue the site and return it to its old glory and how many are focused on controlling us to make money.

The sheer amount of change is making this more difficult for me than previous changes. I do find the site quite overwhelming now but I don't know if a new user would also find it as such. I have to echo AcidBaby about not visiting nearly as much as I used to visit. That began with the previous change and not necessarily this one. I like when cowards thumb down a comment. Too scared to say why they don't like it. You are on a computer, maybe thousands of miles away, hidden by a made up name. Yet too scared to say - I gave you a thumbs down because...

How can you have a discussion if you don't give your point of view? Disagree, just explain why. We may never agree but at least give people a chance to hear your side.

I am betting this gets a ton of anonymous thumbs down, and each one grinning while they feel like they are accomplishing something. Okay, you win the internet.

FYI - there are some positives to the new look. They got rid of the ridiculous " Popular Stores" and other click to pay links that had nothing to do with getting a good deal. I have no idea what "Collections" are. I can't even find Ask and Share without going to my profile and clicking on old responses. How would someone who never used Ask and Share find it?

What I still miss about the old Dealsplus is the community. Thumbs down all you want, until you have the guts to politely tell me an opposing view, it won't change my mind.

Same 6 people who think they can censor someone because.... well who knows why, they don't have the guts to say why. Good luck winning the internet, you can see who little it affects my willingness to post my opinion. It hurst DP, not me.

Still can't manage the courage to say you gave a thumbs down or why.

Same people, same thumbs down. Still can't find the guts to say you gave one or why.

The one vacation came back! Welcome home #6, the other 5 thumbed down while you were gone. Good to have the whole crew back.

You guys aren't even trying anymore. Only 3 thumbs down? You lost focus.

Probably because everyone realizes that speaking to you is a waste of time. Ask & Share won't be coming back because of people like you.

And yes, I wasted my time typing this comment out. Expect no more from me.

you see MikeHaggar

I posted " How would you know you never tried". Nothing rude, obscene, harsh. Just a simple response. But 7 thumbs down just because. Feel good about defending that? That is what will kill DP.

I still remember back in 2008 when users used to give out Vocab answers on the forum and I would criticize them for it
