Is it THAT Difficult...?

6 0
... to check if a Freebie/Deal has been posted? Seriously.

Nope. It's not difficult at all. But the folks that aren't checking aren't checking for a reason and they have usually found a link that is different enough from the more correct link that it's not flagged as a dupe. I see the same deal four or five times in a day (sometimes) and each one comes in from a slightly different URL but it's the same product, same seller, same price. It has really put me off posting deals. I still post deals but only one or two a day. Two years ago I posted lots of deals and it was rare to deal with a dupe. I don't blame DP or the mods - they are doing the best they can. We just have a much larger group and with that larger number comes a larger number of folks who have little interest in participating within the rules of fairness.

If you see a dup, flag it and post a link to the original deal in the comments. I've posted deals before that did not come up as dups AND I did an extensive search to make sure i was the first. I guess the other poster just had different wording or we had posted around the same time and it was too early to register as a duplicate. It is really helpful to let the other member know though. If someone is doing it on purpose, it will direct traffic to the original deal and, if it is an accident, maybe it will be a reminder to double check.

^^ What Peanut said. I think most people try to do the right thing. I've had to expire probably 10 postings in the last few days because I didn't see them before I posted and I didn't get the dup warning. The only indicator I had that it was a dup was once it was posted, the other posting showed up in the "Similar Deals" menu on the right hand side. I think Erik posted on one that it was a dup and as soon as I was back at my 'puter I expired it.

I don't think most people are intentionally searching out slightly different url's. Some maybe, but I would hope they are in the minority.

I agree, nthsll & VirginiaPeanut. I feel a little sheepish but I appreciate a heads up telling me I posted a duplicate. Once I was even thinking someone posted a duplicate of my deal and here we were *both* posting a duplicate! lol

lol. That's classic.

Obviously some people just don't check or just don't care either way. 7 out of 10 times when I check something in the search bar it comes up. I rarely post a deal, but I did one back in February and it was posted again two more times just today and you know the funny thing when I searched for my post which I posted in February it came up. So am I to think the people who re posted the deal honestly didn't see it when they searched? I saw it, why couldn't they?

I may have learned the moral of the story: All is fair in love and deals.
