I feel like it all depends on the dog! Mine doesn't really like toys or anything like that, so we usually just get her treats and more blankets to put in her bed :)

It all depends on the dog. We have 2 - one likes squeaky plush toys and never tears them up, while the other one chews up everything! We can buy anything for the first dog and he will love it, but we have to be careful to buy stronger items that can't be destroyed in 5 minutes by the other dog! Both of them like to run and play fetch. Another nice toy is a food puzzle, where they spend time figuring out how to get the food out - it becomes a game that provides metal stimulation for them, good on rainy days when they can't go out and run.
