Tweaking a Deal to Own It

Deals taken legitimately Or Not.  I have noticed this a lot lately on some deals, especially on sales, where some users come in and add an already known fact, (shipping, rewording...),  to a deal to make it their own.

I read a while ago somewhere that even if they do that, if it's within a period of time of the original posting, they'd only be credited for a Deal Update vs. an actual deal.

I love how some deals are posted before the site has the deal up on their page............I wonder if there is an unfair advantage....?

The only time I update deals is to change the price. I try to comment or PM the person if it is a minor thing like shipping or missing info. I think it's kinda rude to jump in on a deal just to add that stuff.

@encorez: Sometimes stores email or snail mail future deals (including codes) before they are visible on their site. I think it is just a race to claim the deal because if you don't post the codes/deals surely someone else will. Is that what you are talking about?

@VirginiaPeanuts, ditto on the emails. I also get the weekend Wallstreet with all the coupon insert promos on Saturday and magazines with promos.
@arisel, I also thought it had to be approved as an update first. It says so under Money Makers at the bottom of the page. Things like adding shipping info or increasing price have don't count but decreasing price or unexpiring do.

I think it is unfair how 5 or so people post 90% of the deals....

I thought you only got MM credit if you update the deal and the price is lower than the original post. I have updated deals to add the original price or $$$ signs before the amount, not to make the deal my own, but just to help out the other viewers (and I hate it when people don't use $$$ signs) :)

I'm on the same page as you Virginia and dealwagger. That is the only time I'll update another user's deal. I don't think that is necessary cleaning up someone's deal with added features as symbols and original prices. I recently put a deal out there and someone changed my B3G3 to spelling it out and shipping price. The shipping most of time depending on how much you spend. That is a given.

Also adding coupon codes. Adding a code to a user's deal to make it cheaper. I understand if the deal started out with a code and it expired, and updating the code. Isn't that the reason we have a coupon page and link.

@dealwagger, yeah I think I read that part to. I sometimes edit people's deals to make it more aestheitcally pleasing but I don't think I get credit for it (or expect to either)
