Good luck finding a Touchpad, though. They are pretty scarce as HP no longer makes them. Most people are scalping them for twice that price. Application support is more limited than an Android tablet too. It is a great unit though if you can find one.
I'm a fan of the new Nook (even though it is slightly more) and the Fire too.

iPad charges so much is because they know they have a top notch product.
You will from now on never ever will find a touchpad for $149 anymore.
I can see so far for $199 the blackberry playbook tablet is your best choice.
pros: HDMI port, Native flash ( for Flash videos and games on websites), 1080p HD Display, the specs are not bad either, capable to run android apps w/ emulator (I'm not sure anyone is trying to port android). Meets the needs of all the basic needs
cons: The OS is Rim's own operating system so there isn't an extensive support like Apple's IOS or android
Well for a 14 year old, i think any tablet would meet her needs...i hope, since kids are much more tech savvy these days.
I'm not saying the kindle fire is all bad, run's its own customized android os very simple OS layout that a child can use, good specs for price but for the money's worth and capabilities i would go with the playbook.
