I usually tend to open gifts at midnight of the morning that they were intended to be opened. So if someone gives me a gift for my birthday a week in advance, then I'll usually wait until the morning of my bday to open it. I guess it also depends on who gives it to me, though. Sometimes people want me to open the gift right there and right in front of them. So yeah.

my family (of all adult-aged children) opens out gifts on Christmas day, after we sleep in, have a good breakfast, and settle into the living room.
We open one gift at a time in a circle so everyone can see what everyone else got and know who gave it. This tactic also extends the gift opening process a bit, since we have fewer gifts now that everyone is past the toy stage.

I try as much as possible not to open gifts before Christmas Eve. Then I open one on Christmas Eve (just to hold us over), and the rest on Christmas Day. I've always done it like that since I was a kid and i like to do that as an adult too.
When we were younger, my brother and I would wait until midnight and then open presents. haha

We open one gift Christmas Eve and the rest the morning of Christmas. Since my son is only 2 and a half, we plan to set up the majority of his gifts the night before Christmas (or at least remove all the small twisty-ties that take forever to remove. My son just doesn't have the patience to sit and watch daddy remove any small pieces.

My daughters open one gift on Christmas eve... and they always know what it is before they open it. They each receive a new nightgown or pajamas! That way they look "extra special" on Christmas morning when they open the rest of their presents in their jammies (on video natch)!
