Where are the Current Rules or Guidelines Posted?

Just wondering whether updates take precedence over new deals for the same offer? Is there a list of those rules posted anywhere? Or does that vary based on the time posted/updated?

@DealBuster2

I have not published new rules yet, but to answer your question, yes updates take precedence over new deals for the same offer.

Is that independent of the time updated or submitted?

What if before and after posting a new deal, the search shows no duplicate, then the next day another MM comes up with a Dup, how then will that be handled? There has been time, where I have searched and no result comes up, even after proceeding to create and post, no dup notification. Then another MM would call dup and your like, but I searched and nothing came up. Also, when certain words are adding in a title like "Today Only" the item I find does not come up in a search. So I believe the search and find filter needs some updating to provide accurate search results. Thanks.

Maybe I am too fair or have cared too much here about keeping DP honest and to be clear this is just a general comment not directed at anyone just MY experiences with duplicates. If someone informs me I submitted a duplicate, I will review the situation and if indeed I was at fault I will expire my deal no questions, that is the right thing to do. If I have questions I will reach out to a mod. I am not sure why so many people are having issues with this concept. Just do the right thing. That is really the key. Use your brain don't let a few pennies make you cause so much drama. Do the right thing no one is better than anyone here, this should not be a place of back stabbing or stealing.

As far as the amount of times you search before you post. I had someone tell me in a dramatic fashion how they searched so many times over and over again and fought it for far too long and made up some sorry reasoning why it was not a dup and blamed me. I mean come on now most people know they dup and making excuses for it over and over again is truly wasting all of our time. In the end a mod came in and explained why the other deal was a dup BUT why oh why should it take that much effort. It is a shame in life and here at DP we need rules to behave and even then people are looking to prove they are better than rules.

This site has changed a great deal. Rules, new rules and then newer rules can be implemented but unless people try to be kinder and think less about MM and more about DP! Because believe or not there is a difference!

Thanks for commenting, branie. I'm not sure if your comment is directed to me or to DivaToya.

My question is not about searching for duplicates or money. I'm simply trying to do the right thing in the first place by updating an old deal if that is the preferred action over submitting a new one.

The reason I asked is that I updated a sale with new coupon code and expiration date yesterday. Another member posted a new deal for the same offer (at what appeared to be close to the same time) and I learned about it when they commented on my deal later that the deals were duplicates. They were then given an opportunity to "edit" my update and their deal was buried. I agree about burying the new deal for the same offer, but didn't expect them to be given my update.

For clarity, the money is the same either way (1/2 credit) but I want to understand clearly and follow the rules correctly. I always remove my deal when I realize it's a duplicate, sometimes I see it myself before others even comment.

To be clear. My comments were not directed at anyone. Just my thoughts & experiences.

@DealBuster2,
- If comparing update vs new, "time submitted" will be utilized
- If comparing two updated deals, "time updated" will be utilized.

@DivaToya
It will be case by case, but assuming you have done your due diligence: searched & pay attention to dup notification, you will be asked to update an exiting deal and share the credit.

@branie
As I've shared before, I'm not a big fan of creating rules & modifying them. Fortunately, we have MMs like you: check existing offers thoroughly, pay attention & make necessary adjustments, or consult with Mod, if things are not clear. "Think less about MM and more about DP" is an environment that I would like to create by working closely with existing active, caring, supportive MMs. Creating rules & protocols for uncooperative MM(s) is a part of my plan for this year (and it will be enforced).

@DealBuster2,
Case: I updated a sale with a new coupon code and expiration date yesterday. Another member posted a new deal for the same offer (at what appeared to be close to the same time) > admins will support your deal over a new deal.

Case: They were then given an opportunity to "edit" my update and their deal was buried. I agree about burying the new deal for the same offer, but didn't expect them to be given my update. > Currently, this is what admins are doing, if a new deal was posted earlier than the time you've updated an existing deal.

Hope I was able to answer everyone's questions & share my thought on comments.
