Why do we have Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday is the online-only shopping equivalent of Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving has been the start of the holiday shopping season since the 19th century. To this day, Thanksgiving parades signal the season with the appearance of Santa Claus, a sign that Christmas is coming. Traditionally, this would prompt retailers to start advertising for holiday sales. Over the years, Black Friday morphed into the major shopping holiday that it is now. And, with the rise of the internet and the popularity of e-commerce came its online counterpart, Cyber Monday.
Essentially, Cyber Monday came about because of the apparent statistics and trends that showed Cyber Monday as the kick off to the online holiday shopping season. We suspect that one of the major reasons that these trends appeared is pretty simple. After spending Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends, employees return to work where they shop online for whatever purchases they missed on Black Friday.
Why is Cyber Monday called Cyber Monday?
The first person to coin the term was Ellen Davis. She is now an employee of the National Retail Foundation. Davis used the term in a 2005 press release for Shop.org titled "Cyber Monday Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year." Since then, it has been widely accepted by retailers all over the world.
How to Find Cyber Monday Deals?
All Cyber Monday deals and events are offered exclusively to online shoppers by retailers of all sizes. Cyber Monday offers the best of electronics, tech, home goods, and apparel deals. Many retailers will wait until the day of Cyber Monday to announce any online deals. Then, once the day finally rolls around, all you really have to do is head over to the website of the retailer of your choice. There's no waiting in lines, getting advanced tickets, or camping out overnight. Although, some retailers will have special members only sales that offer even better deals to loyal customers. Almost all retailers who participate in Black Friday will also join in on the Cyber Monday fun.
Some retailers will even opt to release a Cyber Monday ad, but it isn't likely due to the fact that a print ad often implies that deals will be available in-store. The best way to find out what will be on sale is to do some research on past years, or just stay tuned to DealsPlus for the latest Cyber Monday deals and breaking news.
