With the holidays coming up, there’s lots of different occasions to get dressed up, such as for family pictures, dinners, holiday parties, company gatherings, New Year’s Eve parties and more. With so many dress options out there, it can be pretty daunting to find the perfect dress for moms. The dress needs to be comfortable, flatter your figure (especially for new moms, it needs to be nursing friendly and considerate of any post-baby body issues), yet stylish enough to fit the occasion. That may seem impossible, but it’s not, I promise. I’ve rounded up 5 of my favorite dress styles for moms to wear for the holidays, will tell you how to style the dress and where to wear it to! From casual to dressy…
1. Wrap Dress
For all those nursing mamas out there, this dress is for you! Holiday or not, you need to own quite a few of these in your wardrobe. To me, this style is pretty casual and would really be perfect for fall or winter family pictures with some tights, tall boots, and a scarf. I also like that these dresses typically flare out below your waist, making it OK to eat just one more slice of pumpkin pie.
2. Shift Dress
I love a shift dress, not only for the holidays, but all year round. I love this style of dress because it doesn’t cling to your body and is a style that can be dressed up or down. I can see this type of dress being worn to a company gathering with tights, heeled booties, statement jewelry and a pop of color with your coat. You can also dress it down for a Christmas dinner with your family by wearing tights, flats, cardigan and a simple chain necklace with it.
3. Lace Dress
I can’t even begin to explain my deep love for lace. The texture and pattern of lace is just beautiful and instantly can make you look fancy. The way I would style it is with sheer tights, heeled sandals or pumps, and maybe a sparkly belt depending on the silhouette of the dress. Simple jewelry is key since the lace really makes a statement. This dress can be worn for holiday parties, company gatherings or New Year’s Eve party.
4. Fit & Flare Dress
This is up there as one of my favorite dress styles for the holidays. Not only is it flattering because it shows off your waist, but it can actually hide that post-baby belly or the food-baby belly (you know, the one after Thanksgiving feast). Just make sure to find one that sits higher up on your waist and not too tight around your problem areas. This type of dress does err on the side of dressy and it just reminds me of Audrey Hepburn. I would style this in a pretty classic way with pearls, pumps, and a sparkly clutch. This dress can be worn for holiday parties, company gatherings or New Year’s Eve party.
5. Sparkly Dress
And last but certainly not least, holidays really give everyone a perfect excuse to wear sequins and sparkly numbers. Although they may not be the most mom friendly type of dresses, I think if you want to get one, you should, and you should go all out in getting dolled up to wear it. My favorite way to style a sequined dress is with a pair of neutral (nude or black) shoes and a neutral bag too. You could wear a blazer over the dress but that depends on the weather. You don’t have to think about jewelry because with sequins, you don’t want to add too much else to the outfit. The sparkles should be the star of the show and your smile too of course! This dress is perfect for New Year’s Eve parties, don’t forget to get a babysitter for your kids so you can enjoy a night out, you deserve it!
