We’re well into October now, and you know what that means -- the holidays are quickly approaching! Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, or New Years that you’re getting ready for, it’s time to start decorating! To get you started, here is a list of seven of the best places to find super affordable holiday decorations so you don’t end up breaking the bank with all of your holiday spirit!

1. Craft stores

Although craft stores probably aren’t the first place you think of when trying to decide where to get this year’s holiday decorations, they are definitely one of the best. Places like Michaels, A.C. Moore, Joann, and Hobby Lobby don’t just sell DIY crafts these days - they are actually overflowing with pre-made holiday goods during this time of year!

2. Thrift stores and consignment shops

As long as you have no problem buying people’s used goods, these types of second-hand stores are great for buying holiday decorations. The only problem is that they’re kind of hit-or-miss when it comes to what you’re looking for. The good thing is that they’re typically pretty organized, so if you don’t find what you’re looking for in the section it’s supposed to be in, you can get in and out pretty quickly. Then it’s onto the next one!

3. Mass market retailers - think Walmart, Kmart, and Target

What do I mean by mass market retailers? Stores like Walmart, Kmart, and Target, to be exact. You can certainly find some quality holiday decorations at these big-box stores, and at very reasonable prices, too! Since these retailers have huge buying power, they are able to sell their merchandise for relatively cheap. What’s more is that each of these stores stocks plenty of holiday merchandise, so you can be sure to find whatever it is that you’re looking for during every holiday season. Kmart has been said to have sets of 120 holiday lights for under $10, while Target has it’s well-known $1 and $3 bins when you first walk into the store!

4. Yard sales

You know what they say -- one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Yard sales are like gold mines for holiday essentials. The only downfall here is that yard sales are typically held during the spring and summer time, so if you’re someone who waits until the last minute to prepare, it’s probably too late to stock up for this year. But there’s always next year, so be sure to hit up all the yard sales come spring time! You won’t be sorry!

5. T.J. Maxx and Home Goods

T.J. Maxx and Homegoods have to be two of my all-time favorite places to shop for pretty much anything - even holiday decorations! Not only are the holiday goods reasonably priced here, but they are also super trendy and eye-catching! From spooky and scary Halloween decorations to sparkly and shiny Christmas essentials, T.J. Maxx and Homegoods have it all. Let’s be serious, though - what don’t these stores have?!

6. Dollar stores

It doesn’t get much easier than this! Everything you need in one place for just a dollar! Okay, maybe not everything you need, but definitely plenty of fun and useful things! From festive paper goods to cute decorative items, dollar stores are filled with tons of holiday bargains! Not to mention, the plus side of buying everything for just a dollar is that you can buy everything new again the following year!

7. Etsy

Etsy is one of the top shopping destinations for buying DIY decor and pre-made crafts. Although Etsy can be quite expensive at times, you can also find some pretty good deals if you’re lucky enough. Recently found on Etsy were adorable mouse silhouettes in either card stock or reusable vinyl for just $8! Whether you’re going for cute or creepy this year, this is a perfect affordable Halloween idea!

Whether you’re doing some last minute shopping for Halloween, or getting ahead of the game for Christmas, these seven ideas are all perfect for shopping for holiday decorations. Now that you have this list to start you off, all you have to decide is what exactly you’re looking for, and whether you care if it’s new or used!
