Saving money is a hard thing to stay on top of when summer rolls around. On a budget or not, people are always going to spend money when it is warm outside, so if they want to save, they will have to find new ways to do so.

Part of the reason it is difficult for people to put their money away and save it for a rainy day is because they may find themselves eager to get out of the house, hang out friends and family or even go to a few of their favorite places. Instead of being able to stick to your savings goals and avoid spending too much money on things you may not need, the temptation is just too strong. Of course, if you can't if you are able to get creative and find other ways to save, you will still be able to reach your goal anytime of year, no matter what type of weather you are experiencing in your city.

Need some help tracking down events happening this summer in your area? Need a deal? Try Groupon and Livingsocial for up to 80% off local deals and goods. Restaurants, cafes, concerts, paintball, movie tickets, you name it, they probably have it.

It may be tempting to plan on buying your food once you get to the beach, but if you want to save money, this isn't the way to go. Instead of spending an obscene amount of a sandwich and a bottle of water from a concession stand or a nearby restaurant, consider packing your own drinks and food. When you spend time outside, you save money because you won't be running electronics and other appliances that can lead to a hike in your energy bill. You won't have the lights on in your home, and you won't be cooking or sitting under the cool air of the air conditioner, so you should actually see a decrease and pay less during the summer. If you do find yourself at home, open the curtains and enjoy the natural lighting rather than turning on lamps and other electricity chuggers that will increase your utility bill. There are plenty activities to enjoy in the summer! Find free events in your local area, go on picnics, hikes or have a beach day. The added acitivity in your day won't hurt either.

5. Carpool

Everyone likes to get out of the house and go to the beach, the movies or partake in some other type of fun activity. Since you will be spending time away from your home, it is likely that you will hop in your car and head to your destination without thinking twice. Driving a car will require you to pay for gas and, depending on where you are going and how often you use your car, this can cost a lot. If you are going to meet up with your friends or family members, carpooling is a great way to save gas and money. You'll will need to drive your car at some point, but when possible, catching a ride with friends is the perfect way to avoid spending money.
