It’s almost Chinese New Year 2016! Coming from Chinese family, we celebrate this every year and every year it falls on a different date. This year, Chinese New Year will officially start on Monday, February 8, 2016. Most families will likely kick off with celebrations even earlier this year on Sunday since weekends are more convenient.
Sunday huh? Yep! This coming Sunday will also be Super Bowl 50! If you’ve kept up with our blog lately you’ll see tons of Super Bowl news but most importantly, snack foods that are a must if you’re hosting the Super Bowl party.

Back to the topic at hand, Chinese New Year is also referred to as Lunar New Year. The days are different every year because the first day of Chinese New Year is celebrated on the new moon which falls anywhere between January 21st through February 20th. Celebrations typically last a week long and that’s also when the Lantern Festival will be hosted.
Why is everything red for Chinese New Year? In our culture, the red paper that adorn our walls and home exterior (usually with a Chinese character) is a symbol of good fortune, longevity, wealth and etc.
This year, we’re celebrating the year of the monkey and we’re seeing a few luxury brands and department brands join the festivities with us! Some has delightfully launched a collection using the monkey character in some form or way and dusted it red and gold. You’ll see a few gorgeous items from your fave high end brand like Coach and Louis Vuitton to department promotions from Macy’s and more. Check out our list below for Chinese New Year gifts or just browse the collection!
First up is Coach. I love the Lunar New Year collection they have going on! From vibrant red hand bags to new ruby leather wallets and gold accessories, Coach has done an impeccable job incorporating those classic Chinese New Year colors in there. My mom gives it a thumbs up. They even have a special video made and you can check it out here.
Michael Kors made a special edit with blogger Margaret Zhang of Shine By Three, the curated picks for Chinese New Year include beautiful gold bangles, wallet and more accessories. We do love us some luxurious gold toned accessories.
You can shop the entire Michael Kors Chinese New Year edit and also take a look at their Valentine’s and vacation collection.
Louis Vuitton also debut their Chinese New Year collection with a cute and festive monkey and blossoms video. Their collection features the high-end brand’s classic monogram shawl (in red and gold of course) and also different variations of red and rose colored handbags, wallets and accessories. We love it! Perfect for Chinese New Year's and Valentine’s Day.
Even Nike announced last month and debut their “Nai Ke” Air Force 1 in honor of Chinese New Year. Simple colorful stitched characters and flowers on a white canvas. They got it spot on.
Although they do not have an official Chinese New Year collection, we checked up on Tory Burch and love the article they did on Year of the Monkey and Lunar New Year Preparation. Head over a read some tidbits about the year of the monkey (they even have the Chinese translation below the article).
Although their collection is slightly hidden from plain view, it shouldn’t be because Gucci has chose and pastel or floral-like palette for their Chinese New Year collection. The verdict? We love it. Very very cute and perfect for the Spring and Summer. Best accent? That antique gold monkey clasp. And their embroidered items? Perfection.
Moving on to department stores, Macy’s launched a beautiful red and gold page with gift guides for her and him featuring classic Chinese New Year colors. They’ve done a beautiful job! If you’re doing a little shopping this weekend, Macy’s is also offering an extra 10% to 20% off with coupon code SUPER or you can use code SUP25 for $10 off your purchase of $25. Sweet deal huh?
Alternate department stores like Kohl’s and JCPenney will instead focus their promotions for Valentine’s Day so be sure to check them out on Saturday (assuming you’ll be busy for Super Bowl Sunday)! We’ll be picking up some Valentine’s Day gift for sure since Kohl’s is rolling out some top notch coupon offers like $15 off $50 or $10 off $30 (haven’t seen these promotions running side by side before). Otherwise, if you’re looking for savings this weekend, your best bet will be our popular page (we only select the best daily deals to feature!) or our weekend online and in-store coupon masterlist.
Happy shopping and have a great Super Bowl/Chinese New Year celebration!
