Christmas is a very special time for families to make memories that carry us through the year. Spreading holiday cheer and creating new family Christmas traditions are great ways to connect with your family every holiday season.
The best part about creating new family Christmas traditions is that you can start anytime and choose which ones work best for your family. If you are looking for inspiration, you have come to the right place. Start enjoying these traditions and making memories with your family this holiday season.
1. Christmas Caroling
This is a great way to get the family in the spirit while sharing that warm fuzzy feeling with your neighbors as well. Plus everyone sounds better when singing in a group.
2. Watch Christmas Movies and Shows
Whether you are interested in the classics like It’s a Wonderful Life or you prefer the newer Pixar short films, watching Christmas movies is a great way to enjoy the holiday’s with your family.
3. Watch a Christmas Parade
If you are lucky and live in a big city that offers a Christmas Day parade then by all means head out and get a good spot. If not, lucky for you and your family, there is always a televised Christmas parade full of fun characters that you can record and watch at your convenience.
4. Make a Not so Traditional Meal Your Unique Tradition
A quick and delicious breakfast idea for Christmas morning may make the kids jump out of bed and run to the kitchen instead of the tree. Choosing an easy and quick idea like cinnamon rolls will make this tradition more enjoyable for such a busy morning.
5. Have a Formal Dinner
Invite family over or just keep it small and classy. Everyone can get dressed up in their best formal clothing and have a family meal complete with your best dishes and serving platters. The kids enjoy this one especially if you pour some grape juice into wine glasses.
6. Make a Snowman
If you have some snow on the ground, why not head out and make a Christmas Snowman? Be sure to take a picture and maybe use it for your next year’s Christmas card.
7. Attend a Local Live Nativity
Check your local paper to find out where your family can attend a live nativity. These are a great way to learn and teach about the reason for the season.
8. Make a Christmas Craft
Get the glitter and glue out to create a fun Christmas craft with the whole family. This would be a fun decoration to save so you can pull out each year when decorating.
9. Reflect and be Thankful
Have each family member write a list of 12 things they are grateful for and place in a jar for next year. Each year pull them out and remember all of your favorite times.
10. Bake Holiday Treats for Your Pets
Baking for your pets is a great way to include them in the festivities.
10. Donate Time as a Family
Visit a local shelter or food pantry with your family and donate time to those in need. Whether your family would like to serve meals to the homeless or visit a local shelter and walk some dogs, this would be a tradition that will spread cheer to many.
11. Look at Christmas Lights
All of your neighbors have put in a lot of work decking the halls of their home so why not spend some time enjoying all of that hard work? Drive around your neighborhood and enjoy the decorations while picking your favorite display’s. A nice way to spread some more cheer would be to leave a special gift for the winner.
