You have a love/hate relationship with the style bloggers who are peppered throughout your Instagram feed. You love seeing their outfit of the day and are inspired to experiment with your own look. And then reality sets in – you don’t have a budget to afford a fraction of a style blogger’s wardrobe.

The best thing about fashion though, is that it is more about being creative than having unlimited access to designer clothes. A “basic” dress becomes cool by adding a vintage brooch. Mixing pieces you think wouldn’t work together will create fresh looks. Here are some style hacks and tips that will take any outfit to the next level.

1. Learn how to tie a scarf.

Tying a scarf is a skill that will give you many options when it comes to putting an outfit together. Tie a square scarf close to the neck and it becomes a statement necklace. Or loosely wrap a long cashmere scarf to create a cowl neck. For more ideas, check out this scarf-tying video courtesy of Nordstrom. Don't forget to subscribe to our Nordstrom emails!

2. Add a belt.

Adding a belt is a quick and easy style fix. Update a boring sheath dress with a colorful skinny belt. Layers are great when its cold out, but tend to look frumpy. A belt will help add definition and pull the whole look together.

3. Throw on a pair of sunglasses.

Some of our favorite fashion icons were known for their stylish shades – Jackie Onassis, Steve McQueen, and Audrey Hepburn just to name a few. A pair of statement sunglasses is one of the easiest ways to polish off a look. They also work wonders hiding tired and irritated eyes.

4. Cuff your jeans.

Whether prepping for a picnic in the park or night out on the town, jeans are your go-to item. There’s nothing wrong with that. But you can freshen up your jeans game by wearing them with an ankle cuff. Skinny and fitted jeans look best with a smaller cuff. Boyfriend jeans look great with an imperfect, rolled up cuff. This look is perfect for showing of your most fashionable footwear.

5. Accessorize your bag with a scarf.

You chose your black bag because it is practical and goes with everything you wear. Now you are little bored, but don’t have the budget to buy a new one. Try accessorizing your bag with a colorful patterned scarf. Tie a scarf in a bow around the handle or use it to create long strap. For more ideas, check out this video.

6. Roll up your sleeves.

Give a stiff button down a cool update by rolling up the sleeves. Yes, that is all you have to do to add a hint of personal style to your everyday office attire.

7. Drape your jacket.

Let the world know you totally get fashion by draping a jacket over your shoulders. This simple alteration will instantly elevate your look while not costing you a penny.

8. Knot your shirt.

A belt is not the only way to define a waist. For a more playful vibe, knot your short at the middle. This can be done with a button down or loose fitting t-shirt and looks chic with a high-waist skirt or jeans.

9. Do the half-tuck.

We first saw the half-tuck in the pages of J.Crew. This styling trick offers a laidback touch to tucking in the whole shirt. You can either tuck half the shirt in or the full front and let the back hang out.

If you're looking for some new shirts to half-tuck, make sure to head over to our J.Crew, Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic coupon pages before you make your purchase so you can save.

10. Make a statement with jewelry.

Finish off your outfit with a piece of statement jewelry. Brighten up a denim shirt with a colorful necklace. Dress up a white t-shirt and boyfriend jeans with a bold sparkler around your neck. A flashy cocktail ring looks amazing against a little black dress.

11. What time is it?

You’d be amazed by what a watch can do for an outfit. A watch is the ultimate accessory when it comes to expressing your fashion personality whether it’s classic, eclectic, or edgy. If you like this watch, visit our Michael Kors coupon page to see if you can find savings.

12. Be comfortable.

You can be wearing the most expensive, on trend outfit. But if you are not comfortable in it, chances are that is the first thing people will notice. Choose clothing and accessories that make you feel confident. Because when you feel good, you look good.

When it comes to style, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to stand out. In fact, you probably have everything you need in your closet already. Follow these style tips and you could be Instagram’s next fashion star.
