The long-awaited iPhone 7 has been released for pre-order, and if you haven’t made the plunge into the newest device, we’re here to break down every penny you can expect to spend from four major wireless phone carriers that are offering the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. We’ll be analyzing the deals from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless.

According to their website, AT&T is the “nation’s largest network,” with the “fewest dropped calls” and “fastest, 4G LTE speeds” that come with a caveat: 4G LTE isn’t available everywhere. Compared to the other carriers, AT&T offers the most affordable iPhone payment plan upfront, but check out the total cost in the long run.

 iPhone 7 Retail Price:

  • 32GB model: $649.99 or $21.67/month for 30 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($650.10)
  • 128GB model: $749.99 or $25.00/month for 30 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($750)
  • 256GB model: $849.99 or $28.34/month for 30 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($850.20)

 iPhone 7 Plus Retail Price:

  • 128GB model: $869.99 or $29.00/month for 30 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($870)
  • 256GB model: $969.99 or $32.34/month for 30 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($970.20)

*Requires well-qualified credit. 30% down-payment option available with AT&T Next/AT&T Next Every Year. 24-month option is available for AT&T Next Every Year plan where users have trade-in to upgrade when 50% of the retail price is paid-off by release of new iPhone. More details below.

AT&T has a trade-in offer to get an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus for $0 when you trade in an eligible iPhone. Here's how it works:

  • You must buy on an AT&T Next plan with qualifying wireless service that requires a minimum of $50/month. Not an AT&T Next upgrade offer.
  • This offer is only valid on the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus of 32GB capacity.
  • Trade-in iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, or 6s Plus device must be in “good working condition that is fully paid off.”
  • You can apply the maximum credit of $650 towards other eligible iPhones up to $970 so that the device will be discounted but not free.
  • iPhone can be traded in via shipping or in store. Trade-in must be completed within 30 days of activating your new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.
  • You will receive $650 in monthly bill credits, but tax is due at the time of sale. Retail price is divided into monthly installment payments over the 30-month or 24-month agreement term. If service is canceled, remaining balance is owed up to $970.

With the AT&T Next and AT&T Next Every Year plan, users are subject to a 30-month (AT&T Next) or 24-month (AT&T Next Every Year) agreement that comes with a trade-in to upgrade when 80% (AT&T Next) or 50% (AT&T Next Every Year) of the retail price is paid off. Both plans require a $20 activation fee, and the account must be “in good standing; trade-in of financed device (or one of the same make and model) in good physical, and fully functional, condition through the AT&T Next and AT&T Next Every Year trade-in program (excludes AT&T trade-in program).”

iPad Mini 2 Bundle: Select AT&T locations are offering a free 16GB iPad Mini 2 for those who buy an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus on the AT&T Next or AT&T Next Every Year installment agreement. The iPad must be bought on a new 2-year wireless agreement.

The estimated shipping date for the iPhone 7 varies depending on the size of the storage you choose, but you can expect it between September 16th and September 27th, and that for the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to be October 11th to October 25th.  If you’re tired of paying substantial rates with your current carrier, Sprint claims they will help you save “50% on most competitor rate plans when you bring your number” to them. This offer applies only to base monthly service plans, and plans exclude unlimited music and video streaming, data carryover and cloud options that may be offered by other carriers. Activation fee of $30 is mandatory.

Also, if you purchase an iPhone via Sprint.com, you will receive free shipping on all iPhones starting September 16th, and the $30 activation fee is waived and applied as credit. They also provide a 30 Day Total Satisfaction Guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with your new iPhone.

First and foremost, Sprint offers leasing on their devices. This means that there is a lower monthly cost since you can lease the device versus purchasing it. At the end of your lease term, you have the option to purchase the device to own, or upgrade to the latest device. Their iPhone Forever lease option allows customers to lease iPhones for 18 months and upgrade after 12 payments have been made. Learn more about Sprint Lease here, and check out the details below.

With its extensive coverage of 4G LTE data beating out all the other carriers, Verizon Wireless is undoubtedly the most advantageous network for users. However, the quality does not come without a price. Verizon is also known for its skyrocketing bills and limited data usage in contrast to the more affordable plans and unlimited data that its competitors offer. Take a look at what you should expect to pay.

 iPhone 7 Retail Price:

  • 32GB model: $649.99 or $27.08/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($649.92)
  • 128GB model: $749.99 or $31.24/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($749.76)
  • 256GB model: $849.99 or $35.41/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($849.84)

 iPhone 7 Plus Retail Price:

  • 32GB model: $769.99 or $32.08/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($769.92)
  • 128GB model: $869.99 or $36.24/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($869.76)
  • 256GB model: $969.99 or $40.41/month for 24 months, $0 down for qualified customers, 0% APR* ($969.84)

*Requires well-qualified credit.

Like AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless is also advertising a trade-in offer for the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Their rules:

  1. Buy a new iPhone 7 with monthly device payments. The $649.99 on device payment is required.
  2. Select the option to trade in your old iPhone 7, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 6s Plus. Smartphones can be traded in for up to a $650 trade-in credit only. You also have the option to trade in your device at a later date, but you will have to activate your new iPhone 7 first. You can log into My Verizon and select “trade in old device” later.
  3. Upon completing your trade-in appraisal, you will be sent a box to return your old device.

Users can also trade in older models - iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5C, and iPhone SE - for trade-in credit of $400. The fine print reads that there is 0% APR, the line must be active for 2 years to receive your full $650 in credit (credit will begin after 2 to 3 cycles of billing), and the trade-in device must be in good working and cosmetic condition. There will be a one-time activation fee of $20 that will appear on your first month’s bill, so you will not be charged upon checkout, but tax is due at sale. If service is canceled, remaining balance is due.

Verizon Wireless allows users to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program. Users must purchase the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, and after 30 days and 50% of the smartphone is paid, users are eligible for an upgrade to the new device. Of course, a new device will not debut until the next year, so the 30 days is likely, but the phone must also be in good working and cosmetic condition upon trade-in time.

The estimated shipping date for the iPhone 7 is 9/23/16, and that for the iPhone 7 Plus is 10/12/16.
