Writing this as I just finished a Youtube workout, in all my sweaty, out-of-breath and stinky glory. I thought I'd share my experience for the below at-home workout videos and hopefully provide some reviews to guide you to a video that suit your fitness level.
In my personal opinion, with all of the digital resources we have today, a 20-30 minute at-home workout is totally feasible even for those with a hectic lifestyle. A little about me, I am definitely no fitness guru, just another gal looking to get my heart rate up daily and stay healthy. I mainly did cardio workouts for the longest time but, well… that got boring, quick. I didn’t feel like I utilize enough of gym equipments, classes and other gym perks to invest in a gym membership so my two solutions? Video workouts.
I have something I want to say before I begin…
With that said, I’m constantly on the lookout for short exercises that can be done within 20-30 min time frame but are still effective. So in comes… HIIT. You’ve probably heard a lot about HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) workouts but if you’re new to this concept:
“HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.” - DailyBurn
Ya had me at “burns more fat in less time”. But don’t be fooled, HIIT may be short but it is a lot more difficult than it seems. Whether you’re a broke college student, busy parent or worker, an easy HIIT workout can be done at home with no equipment at all (you’ll be working your core and using your bodyweight for the most part). The only thing you do need to in preparation for these workout? A willingness to learn and positive attitude. A nice small meal with a good amount of complex carbs won't hurt either.
One of the first HIIT workouts I tried comes from FitnessBlender channel on Youtube. These fit duo provide tons of workout videos for all fitness levels so you’ll definitely have a lot of options to select from here. They came highly recommended from several fitness guru on the web and I can definitely see why! This low impact modified HIIT workout was pretty hard to complete. I definitely struggled with this one but can not be happier when I finally finished the whole thing. For those looking to work your thigh and core, Kelli introduce several core workouts in this video to help you tone those areas.
This is one to try if you have a little more time. For those with more patience and looking for a good workout to tone your body, give barre workouts a try! I had a difficult time with this one just because it is so slow-going but if you’re one to take your time, this could be your new favorite workout.
So this is probably one of the top workout videos I’ve been back on Youtube for recently just because I wanted to get my body summer ready. I usually start with light cardio before diving into this one and I can definitely say it’ll help you tone your thigh and glutes if you stay on it consistently. You can also use this video to extend your workout from the first video for a longer workout session.
I combine the above thigh and glute workout and follow with this ab routine when I have a little more time on my hands. Ab workouts are an absolute struggle for me, I think they’re the most difficult because you do have to keep up with it on a daily basis and increase/change your routine for it to stay effective. If you’re a beginner like I am, this quick routine is a great way to start and you can embed other ab routines over time to get a rockin’ abs.
Another great beginner’s workout and at just 15 minutes, you get a nice intro to strength training! Couple this workout with a short 10-15 minute jog/warm-up for a easy daily routine after work or school.
When you search no equipment workout on YouTube, this is the first video that pops up on the search result and there’s a reason why. At about half an hour, this is a challenging full body workout. This is definitely harder than it looks but if you’re just starting out, go easy and complete the workout as much as you can, then try again the next day until you can get through the entire workout. If this will be your first time strength training for awhile, I suggest trying this closer to the weekends since you will surely be sore after.
Additionally, if you're interested in supplements and protein mix to help you achieve your goals, head over to GNC or BodyBuilding.com for promotional discounts. Workout supplements can get pretty pricey!
So… you’ll have noticed by now that all the videos are from Fitness Blender and I highly recommend them for starters (like myself).
