Hotels offer free wake-up calls, free cable, free shampoo, free coffee, free housekeeping, free parking, and even free breakfast if you’re lucky! In an effort to cater to their guests even more, hotels are now offering tons more free items and perks to make their guests’ experience one they won’t soon forget. The items listed here are typically available at all hotels free of charge, so before you go out and buy a new phone charger, be sure to ask the front desk if they have one you can use!

Travelers! Try Priceline or Hotel.com to access discounted hotel booking deals. Most discount booking sites can offer value stays and usually has a discount code you can use for an extra 5-10% off. Perfect for the upcoming holiday travels!

Free Things You Can Get at Hotels

  1. Oral Care

I think it goes without saying that your day is off to a bad start when you realize you’ve forgotten your toothbrush at home. Sure, you could run to the nearest store and purchase one before having to face anyone too closely, but the best place to look is at the service desk. Most hotels carry a supply of travel size toothpaste, mouthwash, and even small toothbrushes in case of guest emergencies like this!
  2. Hair Accessories

When it comes to hair care, we already know that hotels always provide small bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and most even have a blow dryer in each bathroom. But did you know that some hotels, such as the Kimpton, now carry other hair accessories as well? I’m talking straighteners, curling irons - the works! Now, if only they would offer free beauty salon services too...
  3. Shaving Kits

Imagine getting ready for a big business meeting and realizing you forgot your razor at home?! Don’t panic! Just pick up the phone, call the front desk, and see what they have to offer. Unless they’re listed on the price sheet at a set price, disposable razors or small shaving kits are typically free. They’re not cheap to replace, which is why they’re not often advertised.
  4. Cell Phone Chargers

Want to be let in on a little secret? Many hotels hang on to cell phone chargers that have been left behind by previous guests. This is so that they can lend them out to future guests if they happen to need one. Although there are no guarantees, if it saves you $20 for a new charger, I’d say it’s worth asking!
  5. Socks

    Vector Stock

Whether you forget to pack them, or maybe you happen to lose one along the way, socks are one of those things that you can never really seem to have enough of. Luckily, many hotels actually have socks on hand. Again, the Kimpton for example, offers guests zebra-printed lounge socks if they need a pair. They may not be your ticket to the cover of GQ magazine, but it’s better than walking around without socks at all!
  6. Travel Guides

If you’re in a new area, whether it’s for business or for pleasure, you may not know what to do during your down time. Hotel front desks often have maps, guides, brochures, and pamphlets about local attractions and events around town that you might be interested in. Additionally, a lot of hotels have a binder full of local food delivery services and close-by restaurants to visit. All you have to do is ask!
  7. Sewing Kit

    Real Simple

If you’ve ever popped a button on a shirt or a seam on a pair of pants, you know the frustration of feeling like you’re out of luck. But actually, you’re not out of luck at all! Most major hotel chains carry sewing kits - or at least a needed and thread - at the front desk, so as long as you know how to work a needle and thread, not all hope is lost!
