 During the Day Time:

Though you notice them the most during the summer, mosquitoes are very sensitive to hot weather. They drink your blood in order to nourish their eggs (only female mosquitoes drink blood) and save their hunting for the evenings as they tend to dehydrate quickly. For this reason during the day time you are most likely to find them in cool dark places.

Some areas to check for mosquitoes during the day:

  • Pantry
  • Laundry room
  • Bathroom cabinets
  • Basement
  • Under the front porch
  • Plants
  • Closets

During the Evening:

In the evening, the hunt is on. This is the time of day where you are most likely to be stung.  Mosquitoes, like most bugs, are also attracted to the light, so try to avoid night time laptop or cell phone use if you can.

Some areas to check for mosquitoes during the evening:

  • Backyard or other outdoor areas
  • Bedrooms
  • Living Room
  • Near or around bedding or fabrics

Once you have located the major “mosquito hotspots” in your home, try the following repellents to keep them away:

Mix five drops of lemon essential oil, ten drops of eucalyptus essential oil add 20 drops of citronella essential oil in 2 cups of water. Mix the ingredients together and spray throughout your home and on yourself.

Good luck!

A sucker for all things pleasing to the senses; her world revolves around food (any and all food), foreign indie films, and salsa music. The first to jump off a waterfall and the last to say no to sushi, she has been described as a bit of an “extremist”. In her perfect world, no one ever spells “cool” as “kool” and Ryan Gosling has more tattoos. She enjoys spending her free time in her New Orleans home with her Cubano guitarist husband and 1-year-old son.
