So, the big day has finally arrived. You’ve finally set your email to do not disturb and you have clocked out of work and hurry home for last minute vacation packing. As you prepare to fly to the nearest port for your luxury Bahamas cruise,  you have the realization that you must be wise with your spending while you’re gone. After all, you don't want to end up not having the ability to go on another vacation for 10 years because you blew all of your money on this one. With careful planning, you can have the time of your life while making sure that you don’t break the budget.

Shop Around

Before you leave, it is important for you to find the best deal possible to ensure that you don’t completely blow your budget. Make a list of things that you are looking for in a cruise vacation, then find a cruise line that is able to most closely deliver what you’re looking for in your getaway. Does a cruise line not offer as many excursions but have great activities for your to do on board for cheaper?  Or are the excursions that you are looking to do offered at an affordable price on a lesser known cruise line? These are the types of things to consider before deciding on a cruise line. Always make sure to get the most bang for your buck.

Buy at Unconventional Times

When planning your vacation, most people would like to go during the summer time months. However, during the winter season there can be amazing bargains to be found. Most people sit at their desk dreaming of their dream vacation in July while they are watching the snowfall in January. Why not take schedule a trip during the winter time so that you can escape to a warmer climate? Summer cruises are usually more expensive due to it being the peak traveling season. So scheduling your cruise at the beginning of the year may be a good way to save money on your travels.

Plan Excursions Wisely

When preparing for your trip, you should have a pretty good idea of the types of things that you would do. Maybe you have always wanted to go parasailing and zip lining, and this cruise offers you a legitimate opportunity to do both. However, adding both of these to your itinerary will raise the cost of your trip substantially. It is here where you will have to make a choice between the things that you desire to do the most  in order to guarantee that you will have a good time.

If you would like to gamble, in addition to parasailing and zip lining, you may have to consider using the money that you have set aside for blackjack and use it for the other two activities instead. Only do the activities that you know that you can afford for sure and will allow you to enjoy yourself. Not budgeting activities properly will allow you to have a good time on the cruise, but your budget will take a hit later upon your return home.

Budget for Dining Expenses

When traveling, meal expenses can add up quickly. If your vacation of choice is a cruise, this is highly likely to be included in your package. However, if you are thinking about having some of the local cuisine when the ship comes to port, you have to be wise about this as well. If you know that for dinner the cruise line is serving a seafood buffet that evening, it may be best to avoid having it for lunch at a local restaurant. Why spend money on food that you are going to be eating again in just a few short hours? In this situation, it may be best to pack some snacks with you while you explore your surroundings.

Avoid Scams

While you’re away, there will be ample opportunities for you to spend unwisely or fall into a trap. Be mindful of the situations that you find yourself in. If there is someone who is trying to convince you of something that is too good to be true, then trust your gut and believe that it is too good to be true. If a local approaches you out of nowhere and asks you to be a partner for his traveling shoe business, it may be best for you to go the opposite direction. Not everyone is out to get you, but you must always lean toward the side of caution when you are traveling.

Final Word

When you’re traveling, it can be quite easy to lose track of the money that you’ve spent. With careful planning, wise choices, and being mindful of the situations that you find yourself in can mean all the difference between having a restful getaway or being stressed out away from home. A vacation is meant to be a time for you to forget about the stresses of life and reconnect with yourself. Just be sure that you keep track of your money so that you can truly relax.
