Since Walmart launched free 2-day shipping earlier this year, it has proven to be a worthy competitor of its likely biggest rivalry, e-commerce giant Amazon. However, it doesn't seem like Walmart is ready to end the competition there.

On Wednesday of this week, Walmart announced a Pickup Discount, which will be effective April 19th. They will offer discounts on thousands of items ordered online if shoppers choose the free ship to store option instead of shipping to a home or elsewhere. Right now, there are roughly 10,000 items that can be purchased with a discount, but Walmart claims to expand this to over 1 million products by the end of June. How it Works

Items that are eligible for the Pickup Discount will be marked with "Pickup Discount" on Walmart.com, and they can be shipped to your closest Walmart store for pickup. In the example below, the Pickup Discount is clearly noted in two places, which we have outlined with purple boxes.

Walmart is also offering discounts on bigger ticket items, such as a VIZIO SmartCast M-Series 70" Class 4K Ultra HDTV (M70-D3), which is sold for $1,698 with an additional Pickup Discount of $50. If this doesn't give more incentive for shoppers to ship to store, we don't know what might. We think this brings Walmart to the top relative to Amazon. Wow makes me think before I purchase from Amazon, I might be getting a better deal at Wal-Mart if I pick it up!

You should definitely consider Walmart when you're shopping! I've found that Walmart usually has the lowest prices, and I've done their pick up in store option several times without any hassle. It's super easy and quick!
