Just like housing expenses and electricity, gas is one of those things that everybody needs. Unless you drive an electric car, take the bus, or ride a bicycle everywhere you go, there’s really no way around it. Of course there are ways to save on gas, but did you know that there are also ways to get FREE gas? And no, we’re not talking about stealing gas in any way! Each of these five ways are 100% legal, legitimate, and free!

1. Apply for a grant with Free Gas USA, Inc.

If you meet the criteria, you may be able to receive a grant from Free Gas USA, Inc. for an amount ranging from $50 to $1200. To apply for a grant, simply fill out the online application on their website. In order to qualify for the grant, you and your family must meet the income limits established by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and your application must be accompanied by a referral letter from an official organization like Social Services or a church. In addition, grants are given based on income, personal circumstances, and the availability of funding. If you are approved, you will be issued a coded gas card.

2. Participate in surveys and rewards programs.

There are many survey and opinion websites out there, like MySurvey, OpinionOutpost, and Valued Opinions, that reward you for simply answering online surveys or giving your opinion about various topics online. By answering questions or giving your opinion, you can be rewarded in points which are usually exchangeable for cash, gift cards, and - you guessed it - GAS!

3. Ask your local church for assistance.

If you really can’t wait for an application to be reviewed or to receive your reward for taking surveys, consider talking to your local church about immediate assistance. Although you shouldn’t ask all the time, most churches will help a certain amount of times in a given time period… all you have to do is ask. While they typically won’t hand you cash, most will give you a gift card to gas stations or a check payable to a certain gas station.

4. Contact your local Salvation Army.

The main purpose of the Salvation Army is to help people in need. Therefore, many Salvation Army centers offer assistance with transportation and fuel costs. Some even offer free gas vouchers to customers who are struggling to get to work, medical appointments, school, or job interviews. Check with your local center to see if they offer this type of assistance.

5. Use your car to advertise for business through FreeGasHelp.com.

If you drive at least 1,000 miles per month and you’re willing to turn your car into a moving billboard, you may be eligible for the program that FreeGasHelp.com offers. In return for having an advertisement on your car (you get to choose which type and how large), this company will provide you with a fuel card each month that is worth anywhere from $5 to $200. It’s important to keep in mind that if you don’t comply with the program agreement, you will be removed from the program and charged $50. This program only operates in certain areas of New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, and California at this time.
