Everyone likes to save money, and taking advantage of coupons is just one way to do that. You don’t have to become an “extreme couponer” to take advantage of the some truly amazing deals. It’s all about finding what works for you, and setting up some good habits. It’s been said that it takes 21 days to make a habit, so in order to make using coupons a routine that will be easy to stick to, use the following list as a guide to get started.

Pick Your Stores

Most people have a select batch of stores that they patronize often. Whether it’s your neighborhood grocery store or a favorite department store, decide what stores you love so you can begin to collect the appropriate coupons. Of course, some deals at other stores will entice you too, and are worth keeping, but when you know what you’re looking for you’re less likely to get overwhelmed.

Find Your Coupons

There are many places to collect coupons, and once you’ve selected your favorite stores you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.

  • The Sunday newspaper is a great place to get the weekly coupons, even if you don’t receive the paper, most of them will be delivered to your mailbox.

  • Peruse the internet for coupons. There are many couponing services, but don’t neglect the websites of your favorite stores. Many grocery stores offer online coupons that can be loaded directly to your savings card.

  • Work with a friend. If you work with another person you can exchange coupons so everyone wins with minimal effort.

Organize Your Way

Everyone has different styles of organization, so when it comes to coupons you’ll need to find the way that works best for you. Many people use envelopes or file organizers to ensure that their coupons are filed properly. You can organize by store, by product or by date of expiration. No matter which way you select, just be sure that you go to the store with all the coupons you need.

Select Your Day

If you are finding the most applicable coupons in your newspaper then Sunday may be the best day to select and organize your coupons. Whether you peruse your coupons while you enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning, or over a night cap in the evening, make it a routine by doing it on the same day and time each week, making it easy to stick to.

Put It All Together

If you’ve picked your store, found your coupons and selected your organization method, now you must simply sit down on your coupon day and get the job done. Make yourself comfortable, sit down and peruse your coupons and file them as you have selected. Once you get in the groove it won’t take very long and you’ll be so happy you did it when you’re saving a bundle at the store.

It can take a few weeks, but once you’ve set yourself up for success you’ll have no problem making using coupons a habit, a great one.
