Netflix Originals and Movies Coming in January 2017

It's no doubt that Netflix's original movies and series are something special. No other streaming service offers such a wide selection of new content regularly, and we're excited to see what the new year has in store for us occasional viewers and binge-watchers alike. In the first month of 2017, we're anticipating some notable releases, and for some of us, I'm sure they won't disappoint. Moreover, we're also sharing some Netflix originals that you can expect in the coming months, so stay on the lookout!

One Day at a Time

​​Arriving January 6

This new series is a reboot of the beloved series starring Norman Lear. This time around, we'll be watching a Cuban-American family led by a newly single, former military matriarch with a rebellious teenage daughter and tween son. She's guiding her family with the help of her hometown friend and mom and friendly building manager.

 A Series of Unfortunate Events, Season 1

Arriving January 13

Probaby one of the most anticipated releases of the year, this series is a TV adaption of the classic books we all read as children. The show's cast is definitely upping the ante with our expectations, with big names such as Jim Carrey and Neil Patrick Harris.

Voltron: Legendary Defender, Season 2

Arriving January 20

This Dreamworks animation series is a fan favorite among the adolescent and more mature, and the second season is coming and filled with action. The show focuses on four teens who engage in an intergalatic battle against King Zarcon and his soldiers.

Frontier

Arriving January 20

January 20th will be the Netflix premier of this popular Candian television series. Set in the 18th century, Frontier is a historical drama featuring Game of Throne's Jason Momoa, and viewers will follow along in the intense struggle to regulate wealth and power in the North American fur trade. You'll hear the perspectives of different characteries and resolutions may or may not involve bloody encounters.

• Santa Clarita Diet

  On Feburary 3rd, you'll get to indulge in this comedy featuring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. They're real estate agents and married, residing in Santa Clarita, California. Suddenly, Barrymore undergoes a dramatic change that takes this series down a dark road.
   
• David Brent: Life on the Road
  Premiering February 3rd. As Netflix states, "Twelve years after The Office, a documentary crew catches up with David Brent, now a traveling salesman chasing his rock star dreams." We expect it to be nothing short of hilarious.
   
• Iron Fist

  Another Marvel series debuting on March 17. Daniel Rand, played by Finn Jones, is Iron Fist, and he protects an ddefends New York City with his stealthy kung-fu abilities and of course, his Iron Fist. 
   
• 13 Reasons Why
  This series is based on the novel of the same name and documents the story of Hannah Baker, the late high school student who committed suicide. Hannah shares a shoebox filled with casette tapes to her crush and classmate, Clay, which details how 12 peers played a role in her suicide. 
   
• Ozark

  Jason Bateman is back with another action-filled series. This show is set in the dark world of drug-money laundering at Lake of the Ozarks (hence the name) in Missouri. Bateman will play the man who needs to pay off his deb to a powerful drug lord.
   
• Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later
  The Camp Firewood clan is back and better (and older) than ever. Ten years after Bradley Cooper's character Ben suggests that all his fellow campers return after 10 years, it actually happens and we're watching all eight episodes.
