As fabulous as Sephora is, you probably know how dangerous it can be to your wallet and bank account. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Tons of people admit that they spend way too much each time they walk into Sephora. Believe it or not, there ARE ways to save money at Sephora while still getting everything you need. Take a look at these 11 insider Sephora hacks to save you a few dollars the next time you go beauty supplies shopping!

Of course, the easiest way to save is to use Sephora coupons and deals from DealsPlus!

1. Free samples galore!

Sephora is perhaps most well-known for their generous offering of free samples. Sephora employees are actually trained to ask their customers if they’d like free samples to take home, so don’t be shy! There is no purchase required, and you may choose up to three samples per category: skincare, makeup, and fragrance. Don’t feel like going to the store? Don’t worry, you’ll still get three free samples whenever you order online as well!

2. Use cash-back apps.

There are a number of apps you can use to get some of your money back when purchasing select items at participating stores. Two apps that offer money back for Sephora purchases are Ebates and Ibotta. Ibotta typically offers $5 cash-back on your next $50 purchase when you scan your receipt with the app.

3. Follow Sephora on social media.

Yes, almost all companies will tell you to follow them on social media, but trust us when we say it really is a good idea to follow this one! Sephora is famous for offering “Fan Friday Freebies” on Facebook, and commonly posting one-day-only promo codes and huge giveaways on both Twitter and Instagram.

4. Buy discounted gift cards.

Buying discounted gift cards is super smart, because you’re pretty much paying less money for more money. In other words, you’re getting more for less! Buying discounted Sephora gift cards typically saves you around 11%. But wait, want to know an even bigger secret?? Buying discounted JCPenney gift cards (that you can use at any Sephora location inside JCPenney OR on JCPenney.com) actually saves you around 20%!

Check out WhizWallet to find the perfect discounted Sephora gift card for your purchase.

5. Sign up for Sephora’s rewards program.

Sephora’s loyalty rewards program is referred to as Beauty Insider. It’s absolutely free to join and gives you one point for every dollar you spend in-store and online. Your first reward comes when you reach 100 points. You should know that these points never expire, so feel free to rack them up and cash them in for an even better prize after a while! Being a Beauty Insider also gets you a free bonus gift on your birthday!

6. Take advantage of Sephora’s twice annual sales.

Every April and November, Sephora holds its semi-annual sales for Beauty Insiders. During the April sale, you can expect to get at least 10% off if you’re a Beauty Insider, and during the November sale, you can expect to get at least 15% off. Each of these sales only lasts about a week, so don’t miss out!

7. Be aware of the best and worst things to buy at Sephora.

One of the best things to buy at Sephora are the value sets, as these allow you to get the most for your money. The savings on these sets is typically up to 70% off. Buying makeup palettes is another great investment, as this also allows you to get the most bang for your buck at about 50% off. On the other hand, there are some things you might want to skip buying at Sephora, like travel size items. Quite frankly, these are a rip off.

8. You can return almost anything for almost any reason.

Did you buy something, get it home, open it, use it, and then realize it doesn’t quite work for you? It’s okay! Sephora will accept returns for up to 60 days after your purchase date for almost any reason. Even if the product is half used!

9. Shop in order.

Many people don’t realize this, but there is actually a right way to shop in the store. First, start from the outside of the store and work your way in, as the products along the outside perimeter of the store are usually the cheapest or on sale. Furthermore, start from the bottom and work your way up. Conveniently enough (for the stores), the most expensive items are displayed at eye-level and the more affordable products are located on the bottom shelves.

10. Receive discounts even after you’ve made your purchase.

Sephora is generous enough to give you discounts even after you’ve already made your purchase and gone home, as long as you return within two weeks of your purchase. So if you buy something and it goes on sale a week later, make sure to go back with your receipt right away to get your discount!

11. Sign up for Sephora Flash for free unlimited 2-day shipping.

Sephora Flash is pretty much Sephora’s version of Amazon Prime. For VIB rouge members, this program is free, and for everybody else, it costs only $10. Considering 2-day shipping regularly costs $10.95 for one order, signing up for this is a no-brainer!
