1. Guilford College in Brunnenburg
Guilford College offers a one-semester long course study that is held at the Guilford College’s Brunnenburg in Merano, Italy. The program includes a combination of work and study, with various treks by foot to local towns, and longer voyages to some of Europe’s major cities, historic sites, and landmarks. Only 14-students are selected every semester, so it’s best to apply early and have your resume checked and double checked by several different professors.
2. Franciscan University of Steubenville
Not quite as limited, the Franciscan University of Steubenville enrolls between 150-200 students to their monastery in Austria. Students work with their Franciscan University professors to create a custom curriculum, which, paired with weekly travel excursions, makes for a very appealing course study. Students have the opportunity to visit some historical landmarks, such as the home of Mozart in Salzburg and the majestic castles of Germany.

At the University of Evansville, students will study British life and culture for a semester. They will study at a Victorian manor overlooking the English countryside, which is just an hour away from Harlaxton College in London. Each course study will include lectures, literature, seminars, art history, economics, English history, political science, as well as a good amount of fun and exciting travel.
One of the most diverse programs on the list can be found at Carleton College. This study abroad program allows students to travel with college staff and study all over the world. They will study the Chinese language in China, ecology in Australia, urbanization in Tanzania, and so much more. This 40+ year old program offers 18 different internal options, as well as various others that are sponsored by other Universities. Each one of these courses focuses on independent study as well as a strong encouragement for personal growth.

Believe it or not, the University of Dallas actually has a 12-acre estate in Rome! Students studying abroad in Rome will enroll in courses that are designed to educate them on the roots of European civilization, as well as Europe’s subsequent development over the many years. There are two main voyages that students will embark on during their semester abroad: one to Northern Italy and all of the culture that it consumes, and the other to Greece where they learn of the Roman Empire and beyond.
Dartmouth puts a strong emphasis on educating students to understand and communicate with other cultures. Georgetown University is one of the country’s most renowned colleges in the United States, and this is partly because of their study abroad and student exchange programs. At Georgetown University, students travel overseas to either Alanya, Turkey or Fiesole, Italy, both of which are properties owned by the University. At either of these locations, students will live and learn the local Georgetown curriculum and culture.
