Online shopping has its drawbacks. You may find just the one item you need at a great price, and then realize at checkout that the shipping costs are more than the item itself. In order to qualify for free shipping, you may need to spend a minimum of $50 or $100 or more. Some sites offer no free shipping at all.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get free shipping no matter how little you spent – especially during the holidays? The good news is you can – if you shop online at Target.com. Target is hoping to add more joy to your holiday shopping this year by offering free standard shipping from now until January 1, 2017.
The promotion, which began October 25, will run a full week longer than last year’s free shipping period. The savings don’t end on Christmas. This year, Target shoppers can save all the way until New Year’s Day.
There are no restrictions or blackout dates for this amazing offer. No matter what you buy from Target.com until January 1, 2017, it will ship for free. You can even order online on popular dates such as Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
Do note that the offer is for free standard shipping, which means that your stuff will take 3-5 business days to arrive. So while the shipping may not cost you anything, it won’t be the quickest route. That means that if you’re shopping for Christmas presents, you still want to shop early. You can shop on Christmas Eve, but the recipient won’t be happy to hear that their gift will be delayed a week or so.
Needless to say, expedited shipping is not free. There are three options if you’re in a rush. Rush delivery offers same-day delivery for more than 300,000 items. This service costs $10 and is available only to certain customers residing in Minnesota and Massachusetts. The next best thing is Express Shipping, which will deliver your items within one business day. For two-day delivery, there is Premium Shipping. For both of these shipping methods, the cost will vary based on the price and size of the items you ordered. Shipping can be expensive, so if your goal is to save money, plan ahead. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Best Buy comes in a close second, with free shipping with no minimum order on orders placed from October 23 to December 24. There are no blackout dates for this offer, so you can shop on any day. However, there are some restrictions. Not all items are eligible for this offer, particularly since Best Buy carries many breakable electronics and appliances that cost a lot to ship. Other than Best Buy, expect to pay for shipping unless you have a subscription. For example, Amazon Prime members get free two-day shipping, but it costs $99 a year. Otherwise, you must spend $49 or more. Walmart offers the ShippingPass Program, which costs $49 a year and offers free two-day shipping. Without it, your Walmart order must total $50 or more in order to qualify for free shipping.

In a press release dated October 25, 2016, Target briefly mentioned its free shipping offer. Instead, it focused on other holiday promotions. Like it did last year, Target will offer 10 Days of Deals. Starting November 1, Cartwheel will offer a ton of holiday deals, including 50% off one toy per day. On December 4, gift cards will be 10% off.
There will also be a new promotion, which will begin in mid-November. Very week, customers will be able to save $10 when they spend $50 or more in a certain category. Target will also launch Wondershop, which will be presented as a shop within a shop where customers can choose from 2,000 holiday decorations. The Target Wonderlist will also be available to help customers choose meaningful gifts for their loved ones. There will be a selection of more than 400 gift ideas to choose from based on personality and interests.
While December 16 is Free Shipping Day – one day set aside where hundreds of merchants offer free shipping on orders – Target offers more than two months of shipping savings. No other retailer comes close without restrictions or paid subscriptions. So put the “merry” in your Merry Christmas by avoiding the crowds and doing all of your Christmas shopping online at Target.
