Amazon is nothing if not stellar at providing a satisfying and efficient customer service experience. They take pride in getting all shoppers their orders on time and they obviously get creative when it comes to stacking on those Prime membership benefits. When Prime first launched, their most notable perk was free shipping but they have since expanded their benefits to include unlimited cloud storage, streaming service, photo storage and so much more (see Amazon Prime member benefits you didn’t know existed). Prime membership isn’t that expensive when you take into account all of the advantages they offer but… save where you can, right? Nothing beats free so without further ado:
There are three ways you can get Amazon Prime free or extend your membership free of charge.
Beg Someone for a Shared Household Membership Account
So as we mentioned before, Amazon Household enable a single Amazon Prime member to share their Prime benefits with another adult. The only limit being that you must be an Amazon Prime member and the same offer won’t work through Amazon Prime student or invited guests of other Prime members. Amazon will allow the additional member to have access to the following limited Prime benefits for free:
Amazon Prime Free 30-Day Trial
If you still haven’t tried Amazon Prime, their free 30 day trial is always available for new Prime members so you can give it a try before committing to a one year membership. During your free trial period, you’ll get access to the full Amazon Prime benefits with no limits. A small tip for new Prime users, some shoppers wait till the holiday season to start their Prime trial so you’ll get all of the free shipping and offers with added access to major holiday deals (just something to keep in mind!).

Amazon Prime for Student
Okay, so this isn’t free but for those who are still in school with a .edu email account, you can get Prime membership for 50% off dropping the price to $49. Pretty sweet deal right?
Bonus: if you’re a student and you’re new to Amazon Prime… they offer an extended free trial that lasts 6 months long! After your trial, you will still have the option to upgrade to a full membership at $49. The only downside to Amazon Student is that they do not have access to the Amazon Household so… there will be no membership sharing options.
Amazon Will Reward You with an Extra Month of Prime if…
This has been tried and true for several shoppers but Amazon will reward you with an extra month of Amazon Prime membership if your package arrives late. In this case, you can refer to Amazon Prime Help and hit the contact button to speak with an Amazon representative. This user on Quora walks you through the steps on how to negotiate for an extra month of Prime. Chances are, if you express your disappointment and request a refund, they’ll likely offer either free Amazon credit or they’ll extend your Prime membership. It seems like the bigger your order, the more credit you’ll receive if you decide to go that route.
Keep in mind that customer service will attempt to verify the shipment time. Shipments are commonly delayed due to payments that did not go through, attempted deliveries or if you’ve missed the order deadline (which is usually noted on the product page for items that are out of stock).
"If for some reason our delivery promise hasn't been met, customers can call or e-mail and we can extend them an extra month of Prime membership," confirms Amazon's Julie Law. "But we don't allow people to abuse that."
Amazon representatives will try to resolve this issue in different ways so we can’t guarantee an extended membership but if your order is truly late, you’ll still bag extra credit, refund or expedited delivery.
Although rare, Amazon sometimes offers their Prime membership on sale following exciting rewards like nomination on their Prime originals shows. Last year in September, Amazon Prime was on sale for $67 when they took home 5 Emmys awards. Amazon Prime was also recentlydiscounted to $73 in honor of their Golden Globes nomination for original series "Mozart in the Jungle".
