Following Amazon’s recent announcement to create 100,000 jobs by 2018, Walmart follows closely behind with plans to support approximately 34,000 additional jobs this year. The new opportunities stem from their current plan for further improvements and expansion of brick and mortar stores as well as e-commerce services. In addition to the new jobs, the company will also provide special training for over 225,000 current team members and provide $3 million in grants for innovative textile manufacturing.
“With a presence in thousands of communities and a vast supplier network, we know we play an important role in supporting and creating American jobs. Our 2017 plans to grow our business – and our support for innovation in the textile industry – will have a meaningful impact across the country.”
- Dan Bartlett, Walmart Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs
