It looks like Walmart is trying to think outside of the box and ahead of the game by bringing in-store shoppers something new. Self-driving cart. According to CNNMoney, Walmart successfully applied for a patent that would enable shopping carts to move.
CNNMoney reports that the cart will be “equipped with detachable motors that have sensors and video cameras” and basically, shoppers will have to use a remote (possibly an app on your smartphone) to hail down a cart. So long would be the days where you have to trek into odd distances to fetch your own shopping cart. This could also mean that the carts can potentially drive themselves back to a designated spot where an employee could then gather the bulk of abandoned carts used throughout the day and place them back at the docking station.
In another scenario, the system could also enable the cart to receive requests where they would then head off to search for the item within the store shelves. It’s still unclear how and when Walmart plans to implement this new feature.
Would you use these self-driving carts?
