The new, improved Nintendo DS Lite is worth the cost of the upgrade for fans of the original DS portable gaming device. It retains all the qualities that made the DS so much fun, and the bright new screens make a significant difference in the look of the games.

Bright screens. Lighter and slimmer than original DS.

Inserted Game Boy Advance cartridges stick out at the top slightly.

CNET editors' review
Excellent: 8.0 out of 10

The good: The Nintendo DS Lite is slimmer and much sleeker that the original DS. The device employs innovative dual-screen and microphone-enabled gameplay as well as Wi-Fi multiplayer capabilities, allowing for a growing list of original and fun games that you can't play on any other system. In addition, the system is backward-compatible with almost every GBA title. All these additions come without increasing the price or decreasing the features of the original DS.

The bad: Playing online games via Wi-Fi can be a hassle. The darker models are just as susceptible to scratches and smudges as the Sony PSP and the iPod, and its multimedia potential remains exclusive to Japan.

The bottom line: With a slick new design, brighter screens, and a growing library of fun and innovative games, the Nintendo DS Lite is an impressive improvement over the original DS.

Now we know the winner will definately enjoy this prize :)

Has anyone played final fantasy 3 on the DS? I've been wanting to see if it was worth buying.

Ds + M3 simply is perfect for long plane trips layover bus ride so on.
I have 30 games on the card and never get bored.

Many DS tiltes suck, but their are 35-40 pro titles that are incredible.

$136 doesn't seem that great though.

I got mine for $120 with brainage 5 months ago.

the DS is awesome but this isn't really a deal. I can't find anywhere that sells them for MORE than 130 now.

Here's a review comparison for those interested:

Review: IGN PSP vs DS

Verdict: Tie - "the Nintendo DS is a better portable system but the PSP is the better all-around system"

I LOVE my DS. I have never been much of a handheld gamer, but this device changed my mind!...

@matwat22 - I agree about the games also. DS has original games, PSP is mostly Playstation ports.
