Google Plus Hangout Tricks!

5 0
This is my first pages page! I was surfing the web and came across a few neat tricks for Google Plus and thought it would be cool to share it with the dp community. I actually have never really thought of this but I have to give props for whoever did. I have compiled what I think is the best tricks and have added a few of my own. Hope this helps.

1.) Security system with video and intercom
Alright....we all know security companies is charging fortune for setting up a monitoring system that lets you watch multiple rooms in your home. Why have a security system set up when you can use Google Plus/Hangout for free?! All you need is Google Plus account and either a cell phone, laptop, desktop or tablet can all join the same hangout at the same time.

Depending on the number of devices you have, you can monitor the front door and/or the bedroom. All you have to do is to create a google hangout before you leave for work and at work you can view the very same hangout with the same account and hear any sound too.

It could also serve as an intercom system so when your spouse or kids come home, you can just talk through the mic with one another. So if you have an old android, iPhone, tablet or laptop laying around the house, why not use it for something like this? Its easy and the best of all its FREE!

(FYI...I got the image from Google so the picture above is not me)

2.) Library / Coffee Shop Security System
I'm pretty sure a BUNCH of students has have been through this before. So you're at the library or coffee shop by yourself but you need to use the bathroom. Usually, we'll probably ask complete strangers to watch your laptop while you step away which makes no sense at all because how do you know that the very same stranger you ask to watch your laptop won't run away with it? I mean even if the stranger did look over your laptop, do you expect the stranger to fight and tackle the thief who is bigger, stronger, than the stranger.

So here is the idea, launch a Google hangout on air and minimize the hangout window. You can do your business in the bathroom while still monitoring your laptop. Even if someone does steal your laptop, chances are you have their video evidence to show the police.

This could also determine if you true friends. A possible scenerio is if you are with a bunch of friends studying or whatever. You step away with google hangout minimized, you can now hear or see what our friends are talking about. Chances are, they will be either talking about an upcoming test, planning to play a trick on you when you come back, or even worse, they might be talking smack about you behind your back.

3.) Pet monitoring
Even dogs and cats love Google hangout! While I was in college (before Google Plus), I had a roommate and he would always wonder what his dog does while he is away. With Google Plus now, he can watch, listen and talk to his pet while he's away. FYI...remember to set up the Google Plus device in a safe place so they can't claw at it.

(FYI...I also got this image from Google. I don't have a pet)

I really like the surveillance ideas, especially having your laptop watch itself! I never heard anything like it, thanks for the ideas!

You may want to add some links to show, for example, where you get a google device for the remote monitoring feature. I like that feature and I will figure out what the device is. I didn't know google+ supported remote monitoring.

Could the device just be your webcam?

I have a few old android phones laying around the house I think I might just use this for front door surveillance I was thinking of using ustream but this seems more private... There are so many people going door to door in my neighborhood this would be so helpful...
