Somewhat Unusual Father's Day Gifts For 2012

5 0
Being a dad I am usually curious as to what my two sons might come up with for Father's Day.  Last year I got an infrared foot massager.  That was actually a pretty cool gift and I use it fairly often.  This year I am tempted to drop a few hints to steer them in the direction of a few gadgets in which I am interested.  Perhaps this list might give some sons and daughters an idea for a gift for a dad or an idea of a gift for himself.

I love gadgets so I am always visiting gadget sites.  Here are some of the gadgets that various sites are recommending as hot for 2012.  I'll let you decide how hot they are.  Please leave a comment with any gadgets you think might make a nice gift for dad this year.

Just click on the gift name to whisked off to wherever it is that the item is sold.  Prices shown are list prices and I am sure you can shop around and do much better.

Man Crates- $79- These crates really are crates and they have to be open with something along the lines of a crowbar.  They are filled with snacks or other gifts from which you can choose.  I'd never heard of this before.

Biscotti HD Video Phone- $149- This gadget connect to your HDTV and allows for what I guess is a Skype-like session via your television.

- $179- Basically a media player that can stream video and photos and other stuff from your home network or a USB drive and other inputs.

Artifact Puzzles- $18 to $100+ - Wooden puzzles on interesting subjects including jet fighters, birds, etc.  They come in small and large and, apparently, very expensive.

Air Hogs R/C Replica NASCAR- $30 - Not everybody is into NASCAR but folks that are tend to be rather rabid on the subject.  Air Hogs is a great outfit for R/C stuff and this really does seem like a pretty cool gift.

- $100 - This gadget measures weight and body fat and then sends the data off to  Even your fat can be on the web these days.

- $29.95 - Kind of a wrap around beach towel that goes over the bathing suit (yes, there is something under this particular kilt).  Kind of an odd gift and not quite a gadget but I liked it for it's quirkiness.

Again, please leave comments with any ideas you have.  Or, what are you buying your dad this year?  An actual purchase is probably a pretty good recommendation.

Can't go wrong with fragrances or gift cards. That's what I'm going with! Another idea is something engraved with a message, like a shot glass/beer mug/golf stick, whatever he might use.

Great round up. I love the crate idea. Useless but fun.

Gift cards are always good.

What I learned a long time ago with regards to purchases for men vs women is that (as a rule) men like things that are either functional or we like toys specific to our interests, whereas women prefer things that are personal/meaningful. Dunno if these "rules" are universal, but they have served me well.

@nthsll - I totally agree with you. There was/is always a big difference between things men and women like. This is a rule that served me well too :)

AminMona, I can tell you that I love very, very soft wallets that are not overly big. I think most guys don't care if they have to replace a wallet every year or so if the wallet is comfortable. It's a great gift idea for your dad. Calf skin is very nice for wallets, by the way.
