I have a few of these and I don't particularly care for them. The problem is when plugging towards the bottom the device will come out of the wall socket. This is because there is braces at the bottom of the device. This little device can be very frustrating and I would not buy them if I had to do it all over again.

This is pretty cool could come in handy always looking for outlets

I've had one of these for about a year. The only comment I have for it is that it makes a *very* faint humming noise while it's plugged in. If you have a quiet room it can be noticeable from about 5 feet away. If not, they work great and haven't had any issues with it.

Another note is that the USB is only 500mA, so items like a Kindle, or Nexus tablets, etc will take about *twice* as long to charge as the stock charger.

I wonder if you got a defective one. I've had one of these plugged in right near the head of my bed for a long time, and I've never heard even the slightest sound from it. I even put my ear right up to it after seeing your comment, and I heard nothing at all.

I'm glad you pointed it out megamac, as I was going to do the same.

The faint whining sound was enough that I took it out of our bedroom and stuck it in the kitchen. It's still nice to have, but the wine is obnoxious. As far as I recall, it started doing it almost immediately.

Maybe the manufacturer changed an internal component since I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago. I have two of these in two different bedrooms, and they are 100% silent.
megamac125 Jan 17, 2013
Yeah, could be a component change. Another thought is it could be the electricity provider as well. Capacitors act as a low pass filter and a in ceramic ones, the insulating material can crack, causing some [nano-sized] sparks. Since electricity is AC @ 60Hz in the US, and very high voltage, and it has natural high-frequency 'noise' which comes from the wires, the electrons can jump across the insulator cracks. When this happens, it causes the air molecules near it to excite, thereby vibrating and causing SOUND!
That's what I believe is happening, anyways. In short, I think if I had power service with less noise in it (I live in an apartment building), it might not make any noise either. Who knows.

It's a shame they don't make it to support iPad.

I've used this for about 2 years and it's still working like a charm. Just keep in mind that the USB slot won't charge your iPad since it's only 5 volts!
seanvcxz Jan 16, 2013
This is actually perfect because our the plug part on our iPhone charge just broke. This way we'll be able to plug our phones in and not take up an outlet.
praveensapkota Jan 16, 2013
useful stuff , this will help in connecting different electronics
dvinegrace83 Jan 16, 2013
w/ all the electronics going on in this house, i'm sure we could use this. thanks
ilene285 Jan 16, 2013
Great deal for a mini surge protector. Everyone has so many devices to plug in nowadays that I'm sure this will be helpful for many people.
cid681 Jan 16, 2013
I would think that the amps and the output volts are set to low so as not to blow out smaller devices, but might be a problem when it comes to recharging a larger item.
