The rule of thumb is to always stack your defences. Spybot is great for its immunization feature as well as malwarebytes (the paid version) for its constant system checking. The idea is if you have both of those done nothing should get through in the first place. I also ran a full scan with this and it found 2 things spybot did not (and im rather savvy so to get something to begin with is rare)

I agree with the other posters that MalwareBytes is a terrific package & blows away all other malware detection products I've used, including Spybot. However, when I tried to take advantage of the offer, I was sent to a link indicating the consumer license price was $24.95 Anybody else have this problem?

@atrocity17

I've removed trojans and worms from a bunch of computers with Malwarebytes (the free version, mind you) that Spybot or no other antimalware app even detected in the first place. So I don't think you know what you're talking about. Spybot is good, but it's NOT better than Malwarebytes. At least not at this date. Antimalware is constantly evolving. 6 years ago AdAware was the best, but now it's a joke because it didn't keep up with the pack.

Also it's worth noting that virtually every free version of an antivirus or antimalware uses the exact same engine as the paid version. The paid versions simply have extra, deeper features like scheduling, etc.

The freeware version has saved my computer a couple of times now by detecting the virus and cleaning my computer. The paid version is suppose to actively protect you while your surfing the internet. The freeware version is incredible so paying the $15 is a no brainer in my book. These are viruses btw that Symantec never found... I highly recommend the freeware version and heck $15 extra is a small amount to pay for the extra services.
