Apple Special Event Recap

About this Deal

Today, during a special event at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple revealed their new highly anticipated line of products. Below is a list of these products and their most prominent features.

iPhone X:
  • CEO Tim Cook called the iPhone X, "the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone."
  • Features a new 5.8" OLED display, branded the "Super Retina Display", with more color than the LCD screens used in previous iPhones. The new OLED runs almost top to bottom and side to side (something Apple has never done before).
  • There is no longer a home button! Now, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return home. This makes multitasking between apps a lot easier. Users can switch between apps with a swipe of their finger. To call up Siri, users can now just say "Hey Siri" or press the side button.
  • Without a home button, Touch ID no longer exists. Apple has integrated a new feature called Face ID. Using an infrared camera, a front-camera, and other sensors, the iPhone X will be able to record and detect a user's unique face. With Face ID, the chances of someone randomly unlocking your iPhone are 1 in a million.
  • Face ID can also be used to create special 3-D emojis that share similar facial reactions to you, in a new feature called Animoji. This gives you the ability to control your emojis with your face, as more than 50 facial muscles are mapped to this new feature. Animoji can be sent inside the Messages app.
  • The iPhone X will be available in both space gray and silver, with the 64GB and 256GB models starting from $999. Orders start 10/27 and will start shipping 11/3.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus:
  • The new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus features a new aerospace-grade aluminum and a seven-layer glass process that, as Apple said, is the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone. The new materials will be dust and water resistance.
  • The iPhone 8 will feature a 4.7" display, while the 8 Plus features a 5.5" display. Both phones will support TrueTone technology, and will have stereo speakers that are 27% louder than the iPhone 7.
  • Both phones will feature a new A11 Bionic processor, which, as Apple stated, is the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. This chip will range from 25% to 70% faster than the chip used in the iPhone 7, depending on the task.
  • The camera in both phones received an update as well. The new cameras feature a faster autofocus, new hardware to help reduce grain in images, and new 12-megapixel sensors. The new cameras will also allow 83% more light for better shots in low-light situations.
  • Both phones will be available in 64GB and 256GB, with prices starting fromm $699 for the iPhone 8, and $799 for the iPhone 8 Plus. Preorders begin 9/15, and will be available on 9/22.

  • No longer do you need to type exactly what you're looking for. Simply ask Siri to play a movie or show, or get more specific and ask for a favorite actor or genre. For all those times you don't know what you want to watch, just ask Siri to something like "Show me movies in 4K" and let Siri do the deciding.
  • The new A10X Fusion chip provides richer and more interactive games and apps. These games and apps can be found on the App Store integrated into the Apple TV. Add accessories like game controllers and headphones to take your experience to the next level!
  • The new Apple TV 4K will retail for $179 and will start shipping 9/22.

iPhone 10 --not for me, I am not even sure if the 8 is for me. Crazy expensive prices. Unless I see a great deal I am going to keep my iPhone 6 for a bit longer.
