About this Deal
Buffet-style restaurants as we remember them may be a thing of the past. In order for these restaurants to reopen, buffet-style service must change drastically.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already forced Souplantation / Sweet Tomatoes to close permanently. In Las Vegas, MGM Resorts International temporarily closed down the buffet restaurants at seven properties, and Caesars Entertainment and Eldorado Resorts group are renovating their buffet space to add table delivery and make other changes before reopening later this year.
Some Golden Corral franchises are reopening by transitioning to cafeteria-style service and adding family-style service where "guest favorites" can be delivered to tables in larger quantities. Diners can also expect to see more sanitizing stations and fewer tables in the dining room. Many locations, however, remain closed.
Food Management Partners, which owns Old Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet and Ryan's Buffet, told TODAY Food that it's "embracing" the opportunity to change with the times." Without divulging any details about the new concept, a spokesman said they're hoping it will "bring new life to the outdated buffet industry."
What do you think? Did you visit buffets before the pandemic? Will you go back?
