Pre-Cut Fruit Recalled! New Salmonella Outbreak?

About this Deal

A recall for melon products sold in 16 states as been issued after being linked to a salmonella outbreak. Ninety-three people were infected, and twenty-three were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Pre-cut watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe from Caito Foods LLC were recalled. The fruits has been sold under various brands or labels at Kroger, Walmart, Trader Joe's, Target, and Whole Foods.

The affected states are:
  1. Illinois
  2. Indiana
  3. Iowa
  4. Kansas
  5. Kentucky
  6. Michigan
  7. Minnesota
  8. Missouri
  9. Nebraska
  10. New York
  11. North Carolina
  12. Ohio
  13. Pennsylvania
  14. Tennessee
  15. WestVirginia
  16. Wisconsin

If you purchased any of the melon distributed by Caito Foods, you should immediately dispose of any remaining product.

Any time you cut into fruit, you smear the bacteria on the outside across the face of the cut surface. That's fine if you eat it soon, but if you go incubate it for days in a refrigerator case, you are asking for problems.
