Walgreens Closing 200 U.S. Stores

About this Deal

Walgreens just announced that they're planning to close 200 stores nationwide.

Why? Walgreens said in their announcement that this new batch of closings follows “a review of the real estate footprint in the United States.”

Though Walgreens won't release a full list of closing locations, spokesman Phil Caruso said, "We also anticipate being able to retain the majority of the impacted store team members in other nearby locations." So, it seems like team members may be able to transfer to other locations.

This recent slate of store closings only represents 3% of the total 9,600 Walgreens locations. However, just eight months into 2019, we're now at about 29% more store closings in the total retail market than compared to all of 2018. You can see a full list of other stores closing this year here.

What do you think of this 2019 retail apocalypse that has left many stores struggling to stay open? Leave a comment below.
